In at the Corner - National Three North

Macclesfield 30 (Tries: Wilding (23), Allen (67), Barker (75). Cons: Winney 3. Pens: Winney 3 (11, 32, 53).        

Leicester Lions 26 (Tries: Fry (7), Boden (14), Mitchell (29), Lea (50). Cons: Boden 3.    

Macclesfield end the season in 9th place after this home win over Leicester Lions but failed to pick up a try bonus point whilst the Lions left with two bonus points.

The visitors were first on the scoreboard with scrum half Greg Fry gong over on seven minutes and Jon Boden added the extras.   

Charles Winney pulled three points back for the home side but the Lions went 14-3 ahead after Boden went over for a try on 14 minutes and added the conversion.

On 23 minutes Macc got their first try of the match with wing Nick Wilding going over and Winney converting to make it 14-10.  

Just before the half hour mark the visitors got a third try as left wing Allan Mitchell touched down and they were 19-10 ahead. Winney pulled three points back before half time as the Lions led 19-13.

10 minutes into the second half and the Lions pulled ahead 26-13 with a bonus point try form No 8 Feofaalu Lea and Boden added the extras. Winney pulled three points back with his third penalty goal three minutes later.

On 67 minutes Macc got a try as hooker Peter Allen went over, Winney converted. They took the lead for the first time in the match on 75 minutes with replacement Francis Barker going over and Winney again converted as Macc took the win.

   

Orrell 17 (Tries: Higham (4), Hignett (24), Owens (39). Con: Owens.        

Morley 24 (Tries: Dadswell (37), Chester (61), Bradshaw (73). Cons: Boyd 3. Pen: Boyd (55). .  

Morley were away day winners at the last match at Edge Hall Road after overcoming a half time deficit.

Orrell were ahead on four minutes after flanker Daniel Higham touched down and Fergus Owens converted for 7-0.

They went 12-0 ahead when left wing Christian Hignett went over on 24 minutes. Morley were off the mark on 37 minutes when flanker Peter Dadswell went over and Glen Boyd added the extras for 12-7 but a couple of minutes later Orrell got a third try as Owens went in and they led 17-7 at the break.    

Boyd pulled three points back on 55 minutes and they were level on 61 minutes when replacement scrum half Mark Chester went over and Boyd converted.

The winning score came on 73 minutes when left wing Karl Bradshaw touched down and Boyd again added the extras.

 

Preston Grasshoppers 20 (Tries: McKenna (9), Wilson (24), Flynn (79). Con: Bailey. Pen: Bailey (17).        

Blaydon 27 (Tries: J Kyle 2 (2, 12), Hall (18), Altona (40), St Bernard (43). Con: Mellalieu.  

Blaydon took the National Three North title after this away win at Preston Grasshoppers taking all five points after getting the required four tries in the first half and after six seasons in the division move up to National Two for the first time ever.

They were ahead after just two minutes with winger James Kyle going over for a try and a 5-0 lead. Seven minutes later the home side were ahead with Hoppers right wing Owen McKenna going over and Paul Bailey converting for 7-5.

On 12 minutes Kyle got a second try to make it 10-7. Five minutes later bailey put over a penalty goal to make it 10 all.

A minute later and Blaydon hook Matt Hall went over and they were back in front 15-10. The lead lasted just six minutes before Hoppers were level again with a try form flanker Jonathan Wilson. Just on half time Blaydon got the bonus point try as No 8 Peter Altona went over and they went in 20-15 ahead and still all to play for.  

Three minutes into the second half and they put some daylight between themselves and Hoppers with flanker Selwyn St Bernard going over and this time Anthony Mellalieu added the conversion to make it 27-15.         

Hoppers did manage another try but it came to late when winger Russell Flynn went over on 79 minutes to get them back within a score of the visitors. But it was Blaydon who took the win at the title.

  

Cleckheaton 26 (Tries: Duckett (21), Bentley (24), West (27), Hayden (59). Cons: Edwards 3.      

Darlington 29 (Tries: D Oselton 2 (3, 19), Tonkin 2 (38, 77), Barber (67). Cons: Raynor 2.  

Darlington kept alive there remote chance of survival in the National Leagues snatching a late win at Cleckheaton to take all five points. They trail West Park by five points in the table but need to win against Orrell by 142 points to move above them in the table.

They stared well and went into a 14-0 lead after 19 minutes with tries form hooker Dan Oselton and Charlie Raynor converted them both. Cleckheaton turned it round with three tries in six minutes to lead 21-14 with tries form full back Ryan Duckett, wing John Bentley and No 8 Craig West and Owen Edwards converted all three. Just before the half time whistle Darlington got a third try as Flanker Andrew Tonkin went over to make it 21-19 at half time.

Cleckheaton extended their lead on 59 minutes when left wing Ross Hayden went over and it was 26-19.

On 67 minutes Darlington got their bonus point try as Chris Barber went over and they snatched the win when Tonkin completed a double on 77 minutes.      

 

Hull Ionians 19 (Tries: Stephenson (4), Spivey (16), Cawthorn (66). Cons: Birch 2.      

Fylde 48 (Tries: Brennand (34), Fluker (43), Wiseman 2 (49, 54), Rees (59), Royle (78), Banks (80). Cons: Armstrong 5. Pen: Armstrong (32).   

Fylde finished the season with a big away win at Hull Ionians to finish the season in fifth place two points behind Rugby Lions.  

Hull made the better start and went 12-0 ahead after tries form centre Gary Stephenson and second row Paul Spivey and Karl Birch added a conversion after 16 minutes.  

John Armstrong got Fylde on the scoreboard with a penalty goal and they on 34 minutes wing Oliver Brennand went over for their first try of the match and they trailed 12-8 at half time.

Four tries for Fylde in the third quarter changed the match as they went into a 36-12 lead with centre David Wiseman getting a double and tries for scrum half Dan Fluker and replacement David Rees and Armstrong converted them all.

Ionians got a third try through centre Michael Cawthorn and Birch added the extras.

Fylde finished with two more tries including one form the leagues leading try scorer wing Nick Royle.      

 

Tynedale 28 (Tries: Charlton (5), Duncan (42), Massey (63), Penalty try (69). Cons: Belgian 4. .      

West Park St Helens 6 (Pens: Soutar 2 (17, 38).  

Tynedale did all they needed to do by taking the win at home to West Park St Helens and picking up the try bonus point but with Blaydon winning at Preston and taking the try bonus point they have to settle for second place and a play off match at Westcombe Park this Saturday.   

They were ahead after just five minutes with hooker Aaron Charlton going over and Phil Belgian added the conversion. Andrew Soutar kept the visitors in touch with a couple of penalty goal and they went in behind 7-6.

Two minutes into the second half and Tynedale got a second try as winger Ben Duncan went over and Belgian again converted.

Just after the hour mark full back Will Massey went over and Belgian again converted. They got the all important bonus point try on 69 minutes with the referee awarding a penalty try and Belgian again converted. It was not enough though with Blaydon winning away at Preston and they had to settle for runners up spot.

 

Darlington Mowden Park 24 (Tries: Foreman (28), Dixon (49), Farrar (78). Cons: Snook 2, Farrar. Pen: Snook (62).      

Rugby Lions 24 (Tries: Underhill (32), Wadey (44), Rust (72). Cons: Hawken 3. Pen: Hawken (56).  

It ended all square as Darlington Mowden Park and Rugby Lions finished 24 all.

It took till the 28th minute for the games opening score as scrum half Andrew Foreman went over for a try and centre Ben Snook converted.

Four minutes later it was all square with second row Neil Underhill going over for the Lions and James Hawken converting.

Four minutes into the second half and the Lions were in front with second row James Wadey touching down and Hawken again converting. It took DMP just five minutes to draw level with full back Iain Dixon going over and Snook converting. Hawken and Snook exchanged penalty goals before the Lions went in front with a try form replacement wing Michael Rust and Hawken converted for 24-17 after 72 minutes.

In the 79th minute the home side drew level with a try from fly half Lewis Farrar who also added the conversion to give DMP a share of the points.
