Ask Ashton

Every week, rfu.com gives England fans the opportunity to quiz England Rugby Head Coach, Brian Ashton.

Q1    With it being the year after a Rugby World Cup, does the RBS 6 Nations become more about development than other years?

A1    No it doesn't we want to prepare to win every game and we are working towards taking our game forward.

Q2    What difference do you think Wales's new coaches can have in such a short space of time?

A2    I really don't know. I'm not part of the Wales camp but I'm sure we will see on Saturday.

Q3    There have been several retirements sicne the RWC, what effect will this have on the team?

A3    Yes we've lost some experience but as Coaches we deal with this on an on-going basis. What it provides is the opportunity for other players to step forward and we still have a lot of experience in the squad with players like Phil Vickery, Mike Tindall, Jonny Wilkinson, Simon Shaw and Mark Regan.

Q4  How much do you go on club form and how much does experience count?

A4  You can play well for your club and not transfer that to the international stage. It's a big step up and you can very quickly tell which players will make it and who won't when they are given the opportunity to play for England.

Q5    What's like working with Mark Regan?

A5 'Ronnie' is an integral part of the England squad on and off the pitch. He has experienced the game at all levels and its really good having around the team environment.
