ENGLAND U16 RUGBY – HONORARY COACH
The Honorary Coach of the England Under 16 rugby teams is appointed for a term of 5 years subject to annual review. He works with two Assistant Coaches who are appointed for three-year terms. As an Official of the 16 Group he sits on the16 Group Executive Committee.
Task
- Create a purposeful and appropriate atmosphere which enables each player to develop to his potential and "sow the seeds" for future progress and success.
- Be self motivated to update own knowledge and skills in a quickly changing game.
- Lead and develop the team of coaches of both the full and other England teams (eg England ‘A’).
- Liaise and devise with the Team Manager and others the playing and development programmes.
- Organise and administer the player development sessions, stimulating good practice through appropriate coaching processes.
- Liaise with the Chairman of Selectors and suitable others, in all matters pertaining to selection.
- Prepare and organise the 16 Group coaches’ meeting prior to the season.
- Assist with and assess the development of Divisional Coaches.
- Advise the committee on the selection of coaches for the full and other England teams.
Job Specification / Commitment
Requirement Commitment 1 Prepare, with the Assistant Coaches, the England side for internationals. Currently 3 matches, 1 squad training camp, 4 squad training weekends (say, 27 days in January to March)
2 Prepare and organise the 16 Group coaches’ meeting in November Saturday/Sunday
3 Attend all rounds of inter-divisional matches. Assist in providing feedback to all players after each game reflecting the views of selectors and setting targets for improvement. 4 weekends in December/January
4 Contribute to the selectors / managers / coaches meeting. One weekend in April/May
5 Organise, with the Assistant Coaches, the summary of players’ competence forms for the next level and the final report document. 1 day
6 Attend meetings of the 16G Executive Committee / Management Group 4 days (April, September, January)
Qualifications
Candidates should ideally be qualified to at least RFU Level 3 or equivalent and have good playing and coaching experience. Senior club, as well as schools coaching experience, is seen as an advantage. It is expected that most candidates will have coached to schools’ Divisional level. A clear commitment to the 16 Group responsibilities outlined above is essential. |
