Job Title:                                       Volunteer Executive

Department:                                 Community Rugby - Volunteers

Reports to:                                   CB Volunteer Manager

Key Relationships:                    CB Volunteer Manager, regional Volunteer Executives, CB Volunteer Co-ordinators, RRDMs, RDTs, CSPs, Regional Media Officer

                                   

NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB:

The role of the Volunteer Executive is to support the recruitment, development, retention and recognition of volunteers in Clubs and Constituent Bodies.

Partner with regional and local agencies (both internal and external) that will develop volunteering in rugby union

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Implement the RFU Volunteer Strategy across the Community Game

·         Make recommendations as to the ongoing development of the RFU Volunteer Strategy.

·         Assist Constituent Bodies with the production of volunteer development action plans (integral to their CB plans) and to ensure that they meet the requirements of the RFU Volunteer Strategy and related policies.

·         Lead, support and advise local clubs and CBs on volunteer recruitment, development, retention and recognition.

·         Act as an internal consultant to other staff on volunteer issues.

·         Act as national lead for an appropriate area of volunteer investment for example Young Volunteers or Employee Volunteering or Volunteer Workforce Development or Under represented groups.

·         Maintain ongoing dialogue with professional staff, SE RSB, CSPs, volunteer agencies and others to ensure that volunteers meet the development needs of the Community Game .

·         Plan, facilitate and deliver at relevant internal and external conferences, in partnership with the Regional Delivery Team.

·         Apply for, and support applications for, regional and local funding to recruit, develop, retain and/or recognise Rugby Union volunteers.

·         Compile reports for Sport England and others.

·         Provide appropriate ongoing monitoring of volunteer numbers and trends.

·         Undertake such duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the post and the needs of the RFU.

 

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The job holder is accountable for:

·         Achieving a 3% per annum increase in the number of volunteer administrators.

·         Establishing and maintaining an active and effective network of Volunteer Co-ordinators at CB and clubs within their territory.

·         Developing resources and delivering training to educate volunteer administrators in partnership with RDOs and CB Volunteers.

·         Encouraging and using internal and external schemes to recognise the contribution made by volunteers.

·         Ensuring that volunteers from groups currently under represented in the game increases by a minimum of 1% per annum.

·         Managing projects to develop future volunteers such as Leadership Academy, CB and Club Succession Plans, Young volunteers etc.

·         Providing volunteer news stories for RFU and external publications including websites.

·         Ensuring that spending is within departmental budgets and personal authorisation limits securing maximum value for money in the most economic and cost-effective way at all times.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

 

Volunteer Executive

QUALIFICATIONS:

A sports development management qualification would be valuable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:                          

Be able to demonstrate experience in a management role within wider sports development.

BACKGROUND:    

Personal circumstances must allow the candidate to work extended hours as and when required, and to travel extensively throughout their region and England.

SKILLS & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

·         Must have experience and understanding of sports/club development via a Local Authority Sports/Leisure Department, Sport England, National Governing Body or other equivalent agency

·         The ability to turn strategic thinking into action on the ground

·         Experience in working in partnership with sports development and government agencies on club development and volunteer development programmes

·         Must be able to provide expertise for recruitment, retention, development and recognition of volunteers at local and regional levels

·         Will adopt a “hands on” approach.

·         Have proven experience of managing people and resources effectively and achieving goals.

·         Must demonstrate a “can do” proactive attitude and be able to provide solutions to problems or issues.

·         Show an openness of thought (imagination) and not have entrenched views.

·         Show attention to detail and possess good administrative skills.

·         Will be an effective communicator and motivator. Possess strong diplomacy skills, and able to express him/herself eloquently and clearly both verbally and in writing, and through formal presentations.

·         Must be able to combine personal charm with a natural air of authority and assertiveness.

·         Will have strong influencing skills and able to build good relationships with others who may not be receptive to change.

·         Will be an effective listener, able to show empathy with the views of others.

·         Will be a good team player, able to function as part of a team and show leadership skills when co-ordinating others in a team situation.
