Catch up with all the action from the weekend as Sedgley Park lose their 100% record and Harrogate are given a run for their money at Esher.

Stourbridge 10 (Try: Wilson. Con: Harvey. Pen: Harvey.)
Much need win as Wharfedale look to get their season back on track after a couple of disappointing results. They were behind though after five minutes with centre Toby Wilson going over and Ben Harvey converting for a 7-0 lead. Wharfedale responded immediately with a David Pears penalty goal and in the 9th minute they were ahead with a try from right wing Pedram Salahshouri and Pears converts for a 10-7 lead. They continued to pull clear with Jonathan Davies kicking a penalty goal and then Pears kicking a couple more to make it 19-7 after 32 minutes. Then on 40 minutes they got a second try with No 8 Ben Wade going over and Pears converting for a 26-7 half time lead.
In the second half the home side ran in four more tries as they ran up their biggest score of the season and David Pears making an excellent contribution with 17 points with the boot.
Esher 8 (Try: Smith. Pen: Barnett.)
Harrogate 10 (Try: Barker. Con: Cholewa. Pen: Cholewa.)
Esher pushed high flying Harrogate all the way before going down to a narrow two point defeat at home. For Harrogate it was a sixth successive league win and with Sedgley Park losing they are within two points of the leaders and have a superior points difference.
Prop Jeff Smith put the home side ahead in the 23rd minute with a try, which went unconverted. On the half hour mark Lee Cholewa kicked a penalty for the visitors to get them on the scoreboard. But three minutes later Sam Barnett kicked a penalty for the home side and they went in 8-3 ahead at the break.
Harrogate had to wait till the 73rd minute to take the lead in the match with centre Jamie Barker going over to level matters and Cholewa converting to take them ahead for the first time in the match. That was how it stayed and the visitors took the points whilst Esher were left thinking what might have been. The Barker try saw him pull ahead at the top of the try scorers list with eight, one clear of his nearest rivals.

Lydney 24 (Tries: Westall, Edwards, Jones. Cons: Westall 3. Pen: Westall.)
Park ended a three match losing streak with a comprehensive win over fellow strugglers Lydney with a 10 try display.
The first half was very competitive and saw the home side go in 29-24 ahead. Park scored five tries in the opening 40 minutes with No 8 Olly Hankey completing a double after second row James Hayes putting the home side ahead in the 4th minute. Lydney were also in the game at this stage with their backs running in three tries in 21 minutes to lead 21-17 after half an hour. They scored through full back Adam Westall, wing Dominic Jones and centre Tryffen Edwards with Westall converting all three and adding a penalty goal. Park finished the half well with tries form scrum half Mike Friday and winger James Justice to take the lead again.
In the second half it was one way traffic with Park running in a further five tries and Hankey completed a hat trick and debutante centre Martin Ridley bagging a brace. No 8 Rob Sedman bagged a late late double as well with Howard converting four of the five second half tries and slotting over a penalty goal. .
Sedgley Park 14 (Tries: G Roberts, Senior. Cons: Ueckermann 2.)
Bracknell 21 (Tries: Vondrasek, Hallett. Con: Hallett. Pen: Hallett. DG: Hallett 2.)
Sedgley Park’s 100% start to the season came to an end at home with Bracknell taking the points and made it back to back wins after a bad spell.
It was the visitors who were first on the scoreboard with flanker Ladislav Vondrasek going over for a 9th minute try which went unconverted. They were 12-0 ahead in the 25th minute with Neil Hallett going over and then kicking the conversion. In first half injury time Hallett increased the lead to 15-0 with a penalty goal.
It was Bracknell who were first on the scoreboard in the second half with Hallett dropping a 52nd minute drop goal.
Park finally got on the scoreboard when prop Gareth Roberts went over and Ryno Ueckermann converted in the 54th minute and a real comeback looked on the cards five minutes later. Second row Richard Senior went over and again Ueckermann converted and there was just four points in it.
The only other score in the match came in the 73rd minute with Hallett dropping a second drop goal to take them seven points clear.
Nottingham 22 (Tries: Easter 2, Coles. Cons: Stenhouse 2. DG: Stenhouse. )
Doncaster 19 (Try: Greenslade. Con: R Liley. Pens: Liley 3. DG: Wakley.)
Excellent home sin for Nottingham against one of the form teams in the division as Nottingham move up to 4th a place ahead of Doncaster now.
It was Doncaster who went ahead with Rob Liley kicking a 5th minute penalty goal. It was 6-0 on 18 minutes with Nick Wakley dropping a goal. Nottingham though were ahead on 32 minutes with Warren Coles scoring the games opening try and Neil Stenhouse converting. Before half time though Doncaster were back in front with a couple of Liley penalty goal to lead 12-7.
Just before the hour mark flanker Mark Easter level the scores with a try and a minute later the home side were ahead with Stenhouse dropping a goal. In the 76th minute it looked game over with Easter again on the score sheet with his 4th try of the season and Stenhouse adding the extras.
Doncaster did though get within striking distance when scrum half Simon Greenslade went over and Liley converted leaving the visitors three points adrift but there was not enough time for them to close the gap and the home side recorded the win.
Newbury 12 (Tries: Holloway, McCluggage. Con: Roberts.)
Nuneaton 15 (Tries: Hill 2. Con: Peacock. Pen: Peacock.)
Nuneaton record back to make wins and are 8th in the league table whilst Newbury go down to an eighth successive league defeat and drop to 12th place.
They got a great start to the match and went 7-0 up in the 5th minute with a try from full back Tom Holloway that Mal Roberts converted. Three minutes later and it was 12-0 with scrum half Marcus McCluggage going over but this Roberts could not add the extras. The visitors were on the scoreboard in the 11th minute with Jody Peacock kicking a penalty goal. He missed a penalty in the 14th minute and in the 23rd minute he failed to convert a try from flanker Nick Hill but Nuneaton were within four of the home side and it stayed like that till half time.
In the second half what turned out to be the winning score came in the 52nd minute with Hill completing a double and this time Peacock added the extras.
Moseley 14 (Try: Aston. Pens: Thomas 3.)
Rugby Lions 9 (Pens: Boden 3.)
After a two match losing run Moseley returned to winning ways with a closely fought home success over Rugby Lions.
Moseley took the lead with a penalty on three minutes from Oliver Thomas but the lead lasted just six minutes before Jon Boden level with a penalty for Rugby. Boden put the visitors ahead on 15 minutes with his second penalty goal. But on 20 minutes it was all level again with Thomas kicking a second penalty for the home side, and that’s how it stayed till half time.
In the second half the home side were ahead again just two minutes in with the games only try with winger James Aston going over for an unconverted try. Six minutes later and they were two scores clear with Thomas kicking his third penalty of the afternoon.
Boden did pull three points back with a third Boden penalty in the 73rd minute but that was the end of the scoring as the home side hung on for the win and two vital points. |
