In at the Corner - National Three North

Darlington 23 (Tries: Carphin 2, Andrew. Con: Butler. Pens: Butler 2.)

Fylde 28 (Tries: Evans. Long, Bamber. Cons: Scott 2. Pens: Scott 3.)

Fylde do the double over Darlington after beating them at Woodlands last weekend.

Fylde were ahead in the 11th minute when winger Mark Evans went over for his ninth try of the season and with Mike Scott converting they were 7-0 ahead. Mark Butler pulled back six points with a couple of penalties although Scott kicked on in between and the visitors were 10-6 ahead.

Just before the break Fylde got a second try through centre Karl Long and Scott added the extras and they were 17-6 ahead at the break.

After the break the home side were back in it with an early try from scrum half Dave Andrew, which Butler converted, and they were just four points behind.

On the hour though Fylde got a third try with flanker Paul Bamber following up his recent brace again scoring and they were 22-13 ahead.

Two tries from flanker Andrew Carphin turned the game round and took the home side ahead and took Carphin to 10 tries for the season and Darlington were 23-22 ahead.   

Scott though settled the match with two very late penalty goals and move Fylde to within two points of third place, which looked along way off a few weeks ago.

 

Dudley Kingswinford 34 (Tries: Gowland 2, McLellan, Ferguson, McKenzie. Cons: Swingwood 3. Pen: Swingwood.)

Macclesfield 17 (Tries: Taylor, Newell. Cons: Bell 2. Pen: Bell.)

Dudley Kingswinford continue their good recent form with a win over Macclesfield running in five tries.

It took just two minutes for DK to go in front with full back Andy McLellan going over for a try and recent recruit Michael Swingwood converting. Macclesfield though were level in the eighth minute when hooker Iain Taylor went over and Gary Bell converted.

Winger Ian Gowland put the home side back in front in the 14th minute when he went over for an unconverted try. Bell reduced the deficit with a penalty goal but Swingwood kicked one for the home side before prop Matt Ferguson went over for a try in the 38th minute and with the conversion added DK went in 33-10 ahead.

Four minutes into the second half Gowland completed a double and two minutes later centre Michael McKenzie going over and they were 34-10 ahead.

Macclesfield did manage a try late on through fly half Michael Newell but DK were never really in trouble and got two more valuable points.

 

New Brighton 13 (Try: Birley. Con: Birley. Pens: Birley 2.)

Blaydon 17 (Tries: Cook 2, Penalty try. Con: Clappison. .)

Excellent away win for Blaydon, which was enough to see them go above New Brighton in the league table into fourth place.

Blaydon were ahead in the 4th minute with No 8 Matthew Cook going over for an unconverted try and a 5-0 lead. New Brighton went ahead on 18 minutes when fly half Anthony Birley cross the Blaydon line and added the conversion for a 7-5 lead. On the half hour mark Birley added a penalty goal to go in 10-5 ahead at half time.

Eight minutes into the second half the visitors were awarded a penalty try, which with the conversion aw them take the lead again 12-10.

Just before the hour mark New Brighton were back in front with Birley slotting over a penalty goal.

Blaydon sneaked the win in the 79th minute when Cook completed a double and put the visitors 17-13 ahead and two valuable away points. 

 

Waterloo 91 (Tries: Davies 3, Blyth 2, Aikman 2, Kerfoot 2, Van Deventer, Payne, Tchakoute, Tyms, Broxson. Cons: Broxson 9. Pen: Broxson.)

Preston Grasshoppers 5 (Try: Jones.)

14 try demolition of Preston by Waterloo as they close to within two points of leaders Halifax with two games in hand. Centre Gareth Davies bagged a hat trick as Waterloo ran in five tries in the first half to open up a 29-0 lead. They ran in nine more tries in the second half for the highest score of the season in the division.

Neil Kerfoot bagged a brace and went to the top of the try scorers list with 16 tries.

John Broxson took over the kicking with Tony Handley starting on the bench and he kicked nine conversions and a penalty and along with a try scored 26 points. 

The Hoppers try came from replacement Michael Jones making his debut.
