NCA Awards - National Two

Check out the February winners of the NCA Awards for National Two.

COACH of the MONTH

Hugh McHardy - Esher

Esher looked in severe relegation trouble at the turn of the year but since then they have turned it round completely with six wins in eight matches and are currently on a three match winning run which has seen them move up to seventh place in the league table.

Hugh McHardy a former Scotland B, Kilmarnock, Harlequins, Blackheath, Rosslyn Park player came to Esher 10 seasons ago as a player and became coach following Simon Halliday in 1995.
Former England International Peter Winterbottom is also heavily involved in the coaching at Esher along with  Sean Burns; Former Ireland A Nuneaton and London Irish Captain. Sean came to Esher after a stint in the professional ere with London Irish and got into coaching when a knee injury cut short his top flight playing career at Esher.
Mike Mein has been fitness coach at Harlequins, Blackheath and Rosslyn Park before coming to Esher after Hugh asked him
Mike is a GB Athletics coach who has coached many athletes who have made the Olympics. Currently coaching the England U19 Elite Athletes. Mikes Fitness routines are second to none. Mike is a great Team member and no task is to tall for him.

PLAYER of the MONTH

James Aston– Moseley

Left winger James Aston picks up the February Player of the Month Award having been unlucky not to have picked up the award in January.

Moseley were surprise winners at Bracknell early in the month and Aston was instrumental with a hat trick in a 39-11 win. This followed on from his form the previous month when he ran in five tries in three matches and took his total for the season to 14, the best total in a season by a Moseley player since Darragh O’Mahoney scored 17 in the 1997-98 season.

“James is a young man who we picked up from Birmingham University the year before last. He comes from rural Worcestershire. He is very raw, having played little rugby at school, but has developed in leaps and bounds this year but still needs to develop his handling skills. He is however, 6'2", 15.5 stones, and fairly quick. He is a weight-training fanatic, and hence he bench presses more than most in our squad.”

KICKER of the MONTH

Emile Wessels – Esher

With an impressive 83.33 Emile Wessels picks up the February Kicker of the month award for National Two

The Namibian World Cup player joined Esher recently and has made an immediate impact and with Jonathan Gregory missing has stepped up and done the goal kicking which had been causing Esher some problems.
