In at the Corner - Powergen Regional Round up

Check out the latest action from the Powergen Regional Leagues.

Havant 107 Harlow 0

Havant: Tries: D Jones 3, Claffey 2, Raubenheimer 2, Morris 2, Whittle, Morgan, Davenport, Cruddas, Cooper 2, Molyneux. Cons: Claffey 12. Pen: Claffey.

Comprehensive win for Havant who if they can win their next two matches to finish second can have home advantage over the runner up in South West One with the two sides in with a chance of second place having already lost five matches.

Sid Claffey helped himself to 37 points with a brace of tries and he slotted over 12 conversions from 16 attempts to add to his 4th minute penalty goal, which got the scoreboard ticking.

By half time they home side were 53-0 ahead and added a further 54 points in the second period.

Barnstaple 18 Cinderford 21

Barnstaple: Tries: Parsons, Wallace, 2. Pen: Wallace.

Cinderford: Tries: Nicholls, J Goatley. Con: Trigg. Pens: Trigg 3.

Barnstaple gave Cinderford a run for their money but were unable to stop them regaining second place in South West One in the race for the Play off place to meet the runners up in London One who could well be Havant.

Cinderford went ahead on six minutes with No 8 Mark Nicholls getting the try and Dan Trigg converting for 7-0. The home side were next to score with left winger Wayne Parsons crossing the visitors line in the 13th minute. They went ahead on 21 minutes with full back Alex Wallace getting a try for 10-7. In first half injury time Wallace kicked a penalty to send the home side in 13-7 ahead.

Eight minutes into the second half and Cinderford scored a penalty goal through Trigg and on 65 minutes went ahead. They scored a try through fly half Joe Goatley for a 15-13 lead. Trigg missed the conversion but slotted over a couple of penalties to take the visitors 21-13 ahead.

Deep into injury time Barnstaple scored a third try with Wallace completing a double but it was too late and Cinderford took the points.

Keynsham 7 Oxford Harlequins 7

Keynsham: Try: Hodge. Con: Dix.

Oxford Harlequins: Try: Dubois. Con: Penney.

Both sides could have done with the win as they look to climb the table but a point is better than nothing.

The first half was scoreless and we had to wait till the 65th minute for the opening score of the match.

It went the way of the home side with second row Daniel Hodge crossing the visitors line and Greg Dix converting for 7-0. Just five minutes later and Oxford Harlequins were level when fly half Victor Dubois went over and Chris Penney added the extras to tie the scores.

That was the way it stayed with the points shared.

Kettering 19 Whitchurch 17

Kettering: Tries: Percival, Jones, Penalty try. Cons: Whales 2

Whitchurch: Tries: Appleby, McNicoll, Nichols. Con: Canney.

Kettering are assured of second place after this win and a visit to Cleckheaton looks the likely fixture with the Yorkshire side having lost just three times this season compared to five losses for Kettering.

Kettering took the lead just before the break when centre Paul Percival went in for a try, which Damian Whales converted for 7-0.

Just after the break right wing Tim Jones extended the home lead with a try and Kettering were 12-0 ahead.

Whitchurch then mounted a recovery and by the 65th minute were 17-12 ahead. On 52 minutes flanker Simon Appleby went in for a try and John Canney converted. Three minutes later it was all square with centre Kris McNicoll crossing the home line. They went ahead on 65 minutes when prop Aidan Nichols went over for the third Whitchurch try.

Kettering though sneaked the win when in the 79th minute they were awarded a penalty try which Whales converted to secure the two points.
