Halifax 29 (Tries: Cooper 2, Penalty try. Con: Sanft. Pens: Sanft 3, Canning.)
Halifax continue to lead the table after this win to keep the pressure on Waterloo who have to win their remaining three matches to take the title.
Darlington gave Halifax a run for their money in the first half and went into the break leading 12-10. The visitors took an early lead when left wing Nick Cooper went over for a try and a 5-0 lead. The home side drew level on 29 minutes when flanker Anthony Lewis went over for a try and seven minutes later they were in front. The second try came from centre Mark Butler and Dave Haswell converted.
In the second half Douglas Sanft kicked a penalty within a minute of kick off to put Halifax in front. Aaron Canning took them four points clear with a 43rd minute penalty goal and when Sanft added a second on 54 minutes they were 19-12 ahead.
In the 65th minute they were awarded a penalty try by the referee and Sanft converted before adding a late penalty goal to wrap up the win.
Dudley Kingswinford 33 (Tries: Gowland 2, Smith, Smart, Wilkinson. Con: McKenzie. Pens: McKenzie 2.)
New Brighton 22 (Tries: Sewell 2, Pennington. Cons: Birley, Brett. Pen: Birley.)
Dudley finished the season with an excellent home win over New Brighton running in five tries. New Brighton were first on the scoreboard when Anthony Birley slotted over a penalty in the first minute. Back row man John Sewell went over for a try on 16 minutes and with Birley converting they were 10-0 ahead.
DK were off the mark in the 21st minute when fly half Eddie Smith went in for a try, which was unconverted.
A double though for winger Ian Gowland saw the home side go into a 17-10 lead after 38 minutes. That took Gowland to 18 tries in the division second only to Neil Kerfoot of Waterloo.
Just before the break they got a fourth try with full back Steve Smart going over and they went in 22-10 ahead.
In the second half Michael McKenzie kicked the home sides three more points ahead before on the hour mark No 8 Layton Wilkinson going over for the fifth try and a 30-10 lead.
New Brighton did get two tries in the final quarter but by then DK had the game won to finish the season on a high after looking in relegation trouble at one stage.
Kendal 15 (Tries: Armstrong 2, Con: Park. Pen: Park.)
Darlington Mowden Park 39 (Tries: Foreman 2, Hufanga, Dixon, McLaren, Keeligan. Cons: Richardson, Bedworth 2. Pens: Bedworth.)
DMP virtually secured third place with this away success over Kendal after overcoming a half time deficit.
DMP were first on the scoreboard when centre Suga Hufanga went over for a try in the 7th minute, which David Richardson converted. In the 11th minute Chris Park kicked a penalty goal to get Kendal off the mark. The visitors got a second try when full back Ian Dixon went over on 20 minutes. Kendal though fought back and were 15-12 ahead at half time thanks to a double from centre Martin Armstrong on 28 and 35 minutes and Park converting the last try.
The second half was a different story with DMP in command. Mark Bedworth drew them level on 53 minutes with a penalty goal and three minutes later they were ahead with No 8 Thomas McLaren going over for a try and a 20-15 scoreline.
Winger Andrew Forman then grabbed a brace of tries either side of the hour mark and with Bedworth converting both they were 34-15 ahead. They got a final try in the 73rd minutes when prop Ian Keeligan going over for an unconverted try to seal the win.
Macclesfield 48 (Tries: Coulbeck 2, Campbell, Rice, Newell, Keep, Howcroft, Bieniasz. Cons: Bell, Newell 3.)
Liverpool St Helens 14 (Tries: Casey, Gaskell. Cons: Worsley 2.)
Macclesfield finished off their first ever season of league rugby with this big home win over already relegated Liverpool St Helens.
It was LSH who were first to score with centre Sean Casey going over and Simon Worsley converted for 7-0 after 15 minutes.
Macclesfield were on the scoreboard on 28 minutes when full back Ben Coulbeck went over for an unconverted try. They did though take the lead on 34 minutes when winger Stephen Campbell went over for a try and a 10-7 lead, which they took, into the break.
Seven minutes into the second half and scrum half Andy Rice went over for the home side and this time Gary Bell converted for 17-7. LSH though responded seven minutes later with flanker Martin Gaskell scoring and again Worsley converted to get back within three points of Macclesfield but Coulbeck grabbed a second try on 57 minutes for a 10 point lead.
The fourth quarter though was one-way traffic with the home side running in four tries to pull well clear for a comprehensive win.
Preston Grasshoppers 38 (Tries: Bailey, Youngman. Con: Tuihalamaka.)
Fylde 28 (Tries: Condon, Bamber, Kenyon, Wallwork. Con: Scott. Pens: Scott 2.)
Fylde win at Hoppers to complete an excellent second half to the season whilst Preston look forward to their first ever season in North One.
Mike Scott kicked the visitors into a 6-0 lead with penalties in the 3rd and 13th minutes.
Two minutes later though Hoppers were ahead with fly half Paul Bailey scoring a try and Seni Tuihalamaka converting for 7-6. Fylde scrum half Laurence Condon though put the visitors back in front with a try which went unconverted but they led 11-6 after 40 minutes.
In the second half Fylde went further ahead on 42 minutes when flanker Paul Bamber went over for a try which was added to on 57 minutes when full back Richard Kenyon crossed the home line and this time Scott converted for a 23-7 lead. Replacement Martin Wallwork added another try just after the hour mark to put them well out of sight. Hoppers did score a late try, from flanker Alex Youngman, but by them it was well too late and Fylde too the points.
Tynedale 22 (Try: Belgian. Con: Belgian. Pens: Belgian 5.)
Blaydon 3 (Pen: Clappison.)
The Phil Belgian show as Tynedale finish their season with a home success over their North East rivals Blaydon. Belgian gave the home side the lead with a fourth minute penalty goal but it was cancelled out by Tim Clappison for the visitors on 18 minutes. On the half hour Belgian slotted over a second penalty goal and the home side were 6-3 ahead.
In the second half two more penalties from Belgian saw the home side go into a 12-3 lead after 60 minutes. Then on 7 minutes Belgian scored the games only trey and when he added the conversion they were 19-3 ahead. He finished off the match with a fifth penalty goal on 76 minutes scoring all 22 points. |
