Old Colfeians 22 (Tries: Walden, Powell, Abbott. Cons: Powell 2. Pen: Powell.)
Blackheath 59 (Tries: Maurer 3, Brett, Smith, Long, Goodey. Cons: Coates 3. Pens: Coates 6.)
Blackheath wrapped up the National Three South championship with this away success against already relegated Old Colfeians but not after they were given a tough opening 40 minutes.
The home side went ahead on 19 minutes with No 8 Luke Walden crossing the visitors line and Keith Powell converted. Six minutes later Powell added a penalty goal and the home side were 10-0 ahead. Two tries in the final 10 minutes of the half saw Blackheath draw level thanks to props Des Brett and Gary Smith.
In the second half the home side were punished by the boot of Derek Coates who kicked five penalties in the third quarter and converted a try from Christian Long as they established a 32-10 lead after 56 minutes. Old Colfeians did manage a couple more tries but Blackheath scored four in the final quarter with scrum half Nick Maurer scoring three of them in a 13 minute spell.
Launceston 55 (Tries: Rescorla 3, Morris 2, Nancekivell, Porter, Sprangle. Cons: Porter 6. Pen: Porter.)
Old Patesians 17 (Tries: Steckbeck, King. Cons: Steckbeck 2. Pen: Steckbeck.)
Always a tough proposition to try and beat Old Patesians by 30 more than Blackheath could beat Old Colfeians and it proved to be.
They had a good try and were comfortable winners after building a 24-3 lead by half time. Centre Dan Morris bagged a brace and his fellow centre Eddie Nancekivell got the other with the boot of the reliable Simon Porter converting all three of the tries and adding a penalty goal. Jon Steckbeck slotted over a 25th minute penalty for the visitors.
In the second half Launceston’s promising wing Ashley Rescorla scored a hat trick as the home side went on to a victory but it was not to be enough to catch Blackheath and they will have to settle for a play off place against Halifax or Waterloo.
Tabard 36 (Tries: Miller 3, Bird, Stoba 2. Cons: Colborne 3.)
Weston 38 (Tries: Sprague 2, Woodcock, Reid, Wiseman. Cons: Reid 5. DG: Wiseman)
Ding-dong match, which went the way of Weston in the end but could have gone either way with Tabard have a late kick to draw the match.
Tabard were ahead on five minutes with left wing Dene Miller crossing the Weston line and Rob Colborne converting. The Weston left wing Paul Sprague then ran on a couple of tries for the visitors and with James Reid converting both they were 14-7 ahead after 22 minutes. Tabard though were level on 27 minutes with prop Declan Bird crossing the line and Colborne converting.
Weston went ahead again with scrum half Duncan Woodcock scoring and Reid adding the extras but Tabard were level again four minutes later with Miller completing a double to go in 21 all at the break. .
Two minutes into the second half and James Reid went over for a try and converted but again Tabard responded. On 47 minutes Miller completed a hat trick and they went ahead on 54 minutes when replacement wing Scott Stoba went over for a try and Tabard were 31-28 ahead.
Weston were level when James Wiseman dropped a goal and took the lead when he went over for a try on 78 minutes and with Reid converting they were 38-31 ahead.
On 80 minutes Stoba got a second try but they were unable to convert for the draw.
Southend 48 (Tries: Wagstaff 2, C Green 2, Hyde 2. Cons: Chambers 6. Pens: Chambers 2.)
Haywards Heath 8 (Try: Salisbury. Pen: Griffin.)
Strong home finish to the season for Southend with a comprehensive win over Haywards Heath running in six tries. They were all converted by Ali Chambers who also banged over a couple of penalties with all eight of his kicks finding the target.
Leading try scorer Chris Green bagged a brace to move on to 16 for the season and third place in the try scorers list. Right wing James Hyde and flanker James Wagstaff also completed doubles with the home side tasking command in the first half and went in 34-3 ahead. The match was marred with five players spending time in the sin bin, three from Haywards Heath and two from Southend and four of them for foul play.
Basingstoke 19 (Tries: Dixon 2, Young. Cons: Calder 2.)
Redruth 31 (Tries: Corin 2, Vinnicombe, Heard, Bonds. Cons: Martin 3.)
Redruth finished with an away win to consolidate third place in the league table. The visitors were ahead on nine minutes when flanker Neil Corin crossed the home line and Scott Martin converted.
Basingstoke then took over and scored three unanswered tries to go into a 19-7 lead. Flanker James Dixon bagged a brace and prop Neil Young got the other with Ian Calder converting two of them.
Redruth were back in the game late in the half when winger Lewis Vinnicombe went over for an unconverted try and trail by seven points.
In the second half Redruth took over and did all the scoring after prop Sam Heard went over for an early try which Martin converted to level at 19 all.
After that Corin completed a double and full back Craig Bonds went over to seal the win.
Dings Crusaders 13 (Try: Edwards. Con: Poole. Pens: Poole 2.)
North Walsham 20 (Tries: Sinclair, Thomas, Rossouw. Con: Wyatt. Pen: Wyatt.)
Another match in which Dings competed but could not get a result with North Walsham taking the points with a good second half.
Dings took the first half 13-0 with fly half Chris Poole kicking an early 2nd minute penalty goal. Leading try scorer Sylvan Edwards went over for a try on 13 minutes which Poole converted and then added a 31st minute penalty goal for a 13-0 lead which they took into the break.
In the second half Jonny Wyatt got the visitors off the mark with a 44th minute penalty goal. They were over the home try line on 53 minutes when right wing Simon Sinclair went over to get back to within a score.
Just after the hour mark No 8 Mark Thomas went over for a try, which drew the scores level, but they were ahead when Wyatt added the conversion. They were seven points clear on 71 minutes when hooker Gideon Rossouw went over for a try and a seven point lead which they held on too till the end.
Barking 30 (Tries: Stannard 2, Williams 2, Hill. Con: Azzopardi. DG: Mee.)
Westcombe Park 15 (Tries: Daniel 2. Con: Garfoot. Pen: Garfoot.)
Barking finished with a win over an in form Westcombe Park side. They were ahead after seven minutes when centre Glen Stannard went over for an unconverted try; the lead was doubled on 13 minutes when winger Adie Hill got a try for 10-0. Park then got on the scoreboard when Mark Garfoot slotted over a penalty goal. Barking went further ahead though on 26 minutes when the other Barking winger Lloyd Williams crossed the visitors line and this time Azzopardi converted. Casey Mee dropped a goal six minutes later and they were 20-3 ahead. Left wing Nick Daniel got a try for the visitors before the break but they were still 12 points behind.
In the second half Williams completed a double early on but again it went unconverted. Park did get a second try with Daniel completing a double and this time Garfoot converted. The final score though went to the home side as Stannard completed a double in the 61st minute with the final 19 minutes scoreless. |
