Terrace talk - National Three North

Check out our weekly previews and predictions.

Bedford Athletic v Macclesfield

Second placed Macclesfield travel to bottom of the table Bedford Athletic looking to return to winning ways after last weekends defeat at the hands of leaders Halifax.

After an opening day win Ath have slipped to six successive defeats and are now bottom of the Three North League table. After beating Blaydon on the opening day of the season they have lost at home now to Darlington and Dudley Kingswinford both matches they need to be winning if they are to climb the table.

Macclesfield were beaten for the second time this season and the first time at home going down to the leaders Halifax. Away from home they lost on the opening day at Fylde but since then have won three matches all 18-13!!!.

This will be the first ever league meeting between the two sides.

Prediction: Away win less than five points, 18-13.

Blaydon v Darlington Mowden Park

12th placed Blaydon entertain fourth placed Darlington Mowden Park in this North East derby.

Blaydon have now lost five in a row and will need to turn things round soon and there is nothing like a derby match to throw a spanner into current form. At home this season they have lost to Macclesfield and Tynedale, second and third respectively in the league table, and beaten Dudley Kingswinford.

DMP have won three in a row now and steadily climbed the table over the last few weeks after losing their opening two matches of the season. Away from home they have already won at New Brighton but were losers at Fylde and Tynedale.

Prediction: Away win by less than nine points.

Darlington v Bradford & Bingley

Seventh placed Bradford & Bingley travel to 10th placed Darlington looking to keep the momentum going after a recent upturn in form.

The Bees have now put together a run of three successive wins in the league and need to continue that form as they look to make up lost ground in the chase for a top two spot by the end of the season. They were narrow 9-8 winners last time out on the road having lost both their previous away matches earlier in the season.

Darlington were within three of Tynedale last Saturday and gave a good account of themselves but will be looking for a win the week in what is a really tough match for them. At Blackwell Meadows this season they have done reasonably well. They were big winners over Cleckheaton and pushed Halifax to seven points the disappointing result was the heavy loss against Blaydon.

Prediction: Home win less than seven points.

Dudley Kingswinford v Tynedale

Tough match for Dudley to keep their recent improved form going as they host third placed Tynedale.

In their last five matches they have picked up two wins and a draw, moved off the bottom of the table and are in striking distance of the sides immediately above them in the table.

At home they are yet to win losing twice and getting a 25 all draw with Darlington.

Tynedale were winners again on Saturday with their fifth win of the season and they have lost just the once so far. Away from home they have lost at New Brighton but beaten Blaydon and Bradford & Bingley.

Prediction: Away win less than seven points but with DK improving of late a tough call.

Halifax v Cleckheaton

Leaders Halifax entertain Yorkshire rivals Cleckheaton on Saturday after last weeks away success at their nearest challenges Macclesfield.

The leaders are now five points clear after last Saturday and will be confident of making it eight out of eight with a fourth successive home match. They have passed the 30 point mark in all three of their home matches this season and in fact gone over 40 in two of those.

Cleckheaton were losers at home last Saturday as struggling Dudley Kingswinford left with the points. Away from home Cleckheaton had an early season win at DMP but since then have suffered three defeats.

Prediction: Home win by more than 10 points.

New Brighton v Kendal

11th placed Kendal go to eighth placed New Brighton looking for back to back wins for the first time this season against an out of sorts New Brighton side.

The home side have now lost three in a row and another season of not making the top two looks on the cards unless they can turn the bad run of form round quickly. This is possible as on paper they look to have a very good side.

At home this season they have suffered losers at the hands of DMP and Macclesfield.

Kendal were winners last Saturday at home to Bedford Athletic and made it three out of four wins at Mint Bridge this season. Away from home it is a different story for the Cumbrian side with all three matches ending in defeats.

Prediction: Home win by 10 points plus.

Rugby Lions v Fylde

Fifth placed Fylde go to sixth placed Rugby Lions in the days’ most intriguing fixtures.

Fylde sit in fifth placed and have played just six matches two fewer than most sides in the table and have lost just once in six matches this season and go into the match on the back of four consecutive wins.

Rugby after making a bright start to the season have slipped of late and picked up just a win and a draw in their last six league matches and a defeat on Saturday would be their third in a row.

Prediction: Toughest call of the day this one, a home win less then five but could go either way.
