Terrace Talk - National Three South

Check out our weekly previews and predictions.

Barking v Dings Crusaders

Top clash of the day at Gorsebrook with Barking entertaining Dings Crusaders as third takes on fourth.

Barking go into the game on the back of a 43-0 win away at Hertford and have passed the 40 mark in their last two matches after a 5-32 win over Reading at home the week before. They are unbeaten at home with two wins and a draw from their three matches.

Dings after winning their first four matches have won two and lost two of their last four matches although they were against North Walsham and the In Form Havant away from home.

Prediction: Tough call but a home win less than seven points.

Havant v Lydney

Top of the table Lydney travel to the In-Form Havant for what will be a tough match for them as they look to keep top spot ahead of North Walsham.

Havant after a poor start which saw them suffer four straight defeats are now on a four match winning run but it will be given a severe examination on Saturday by Lydney who are the division’s top scorers and have the meanest defence.

Lydney have won four on the bounce since suffering a narrow one point defeat at home to Barking. On the road they have won all three matches conceding just 34 points in those matches.

Prediction: Away win by less than eight points.

North Walsham v Weston

With Table toppers Lydney having a tough match away at Havant, North Walsham will looking for all five points in this home fixture against 12th placed Weston super Mare.

At home this season North Walsham have won all three matches but were pushed all the way by Redruth before coming through 14-13. They have lost just the once all season going down away at Barking. They have though the worst defensive record of any of the top five sides in the division.

Weston have lost the lost four matches and dropped down to third bottom a place they do not want to be staying. On the road this season they have beaten bottom of the table Haywards Heath bit lost their other two road trips.

Prediction: Home win by more than 10 points.

Reading v Tabard

Second bottom Reading entertain seventh placed Tabard at Holme Park this Saturday knowing a win could shoot them up the National Three South League table.

Reading have suffered four straight defeats and need to stem the run and will see this home fixture as a good opportunity to return to winning ways. At home they have won two out of three with the defeat being at the hands of second placed North Walsham. The damage has been done away from home where they have lost all five matches.

Reading are the only side in the bottom half of the table to have picked up three bonus points for scoring four tries or more.

Tabard seem to be able to give anybody a run for their money and then lose matches you think they should be winning. Away from home this season they have picked up just the one win at Hertford and lost their other three road trips.

Prediction: Home win less than seven points.

Redruth v Haywards Heath

Fifth placed Redruth with home advantage over bottom of the table Haywards Heath will be looking for the full five points to keep in touch with the top four who have a three gap on them.

Redruth are 100% at home this season with three straight wins and are looking to make it four wins in their last five league matches.

They have the joint tightest defence in the division along with Lydney conceding just 96 points in eight matches.

Haywards Heath are still looking for that elusive first win of the season but this will not be the place for the losing run to end.

Although bottom of the table without a win there are three sides with a worse defensive record than them in Three South and they have picked up more losing by seven or less bonus points than anybody else.

Where they do struggle is scoring points with just 87 so far averaging just 12 points a match.

Prediction: Home win by more than 10 points.

Southend v Hertford

11th placed Southend are at home to new boys Hertford who sit in eighth place at present with three wins in their opening eight National League matches.

Southend have moved out of the bottom three after putting together a run of three wins in four matches and a win here with a four try bonus could see them move into the top half of the table which would be excellent after opening the season with four straight losses.

Hertford have picked up three wins this season but they have all come at Highfields. On the road they have lost all three times but two of these were against Dings and Lydney, top four sides. They do lack fire power with only Haywards Heath and Old Patesians scoring fewer points than them.

Prediction: Home win less than seven points.

Westcombe Park v Old Patesians

10th placed Combe entertain 9th placed Old Patesians knowing a win will see them move up the table and maybe three placed depending on the results of Hertford and Tabard.

Combe were well beaten at Lydney last weekend with Lydney finishing them off in the final quarter with four tries in a 47-6 win. Prior to that, they had won their last two in the league after losing three of their first four matches this season.

Old Patesians after three defeats in their last four will be looking to get back on track with an away success But with defeats already at Hertford and Tabard it might be asking too much of them.

Prediction: Home win less than nine points.
