Terrace Talk - National Two

Saturday 11th December

Blackheath v Bracknell

10th placed Blackheath are at home to 13th placed Bracknell looking for a good win to try and pull clear of the sides in the relegation zone.

Blackheath were beaten at Wharfedale last weekend but were in the match right till the death losing out to a late Jonathan Davies penalty goal, although they did pick up a bonus point. .

Bracknell gave Moseley a run for their money last weekend at home and managed to pick up a bonus point in a four point loss.

It is a difficult time for Bracknell who are now six points adrift of safety and need to start winning soon.

Prediction: Blackheath to win by eight points.

Esher v Manchester

Third placed Manchester travel down to 12th placed Esher looking to try and keep the pressure on second placed Newbury.

Manchester were comfortable winners at home against Rosslyn Park and will be keen to improve their away form which they will need to do if they to have a chance of catching the leading sides in the division.

Esher are going through a bad spell at present but nearly pulled of a win away at Waterloo last weekend only going down really late in the game.

Prediction: Manchester to win by eight points.

Harrogate v Waterloo

Eighth placed Waterloo travel to 11th placed Harrogate looking for back to back wins for the first time since the opening month of the season.

Waterloo returned to winning ways last weekend with a narrow home success over Esher and following on form a draw against Stourbridge they may have found some form again.

They will then see this as an away match they can win with Harrogate having the worst defence in the division.

Harrogate were heavily beaten last weekend when going down 53-3 to leaders Doncaster away from home. They are capable of scoring points with only five sides scoring more points than them this season but until they can improve defensively they are going to struggle against the better sides.

Prediction: Waterloo to get away win with six point success.

Moseley v Doncaster

Leaders Doncaster travel to sixth placed Moseley looking for an 11 win in 12 matches to continue their Championship push which already sees them with a six point lead at the top of the table.

They were big home winners last weekend passing the half century against Harrogate and are the leading scorers in the division as well as having the best defensive record.

They can score tries from anywhere and in the back row have three really talented players. One of whom, Simon Grainger, picked up the NCA player of the Month award and there were also votes for No 8 Oliver Cook as well.

Moseley at home can be dangerous and if Doncaster are below par they could well come unstuck with the home side having some excellent finishes and well as the reliable boot of Ollie Thomas, who is the leading scorer in the division.

Last week they were winners at Bracknell with Nathan Bressington returning to the scoresheet with another brace of tries to go into double figures for the season.

Prediction: Doncaster to remain unbeaten with an eight point win at Moseley.

Rosslyn Park v Launceston

Fourth placed Launceston will be in confident mood when they travel to play ninth placed Rosslyn Park on Saturday.

Launceston produced a huge win last weekend when they thrashed Stourbridge 59-13 at Polson Bridge to move above them in the National Two league table.

They are just two points behind third placed Manchester who are also in London this weekend playing Esher.

Park have a tough match on their hands as they try and get back to winning ways. Last weekend they went to Manchester where they were well beaten by an in form side but at home Park are a different side and are capable of winning this one if they play at their best.

Prediction: Tough call but Launceston to win by less than seven points to continue good recent run.

Stourbridge v Nuneaton

Fifth placed Stourbridge entertain bottom of the table Nuneaton with both sides looking for a win.

Stourbridge have dropped from second to fifth in recent weeks so will be looking to stop the rot against Nuneaton at Stourton Park.

After this bad run this in just the game they probably need to try and find some form again and return to winning ways.

Nuneaton are now 10 points of safety and need a real turnaround in form if they are to have any chance of climbing the table and catch the sides above them. They were heavily beaten last weekend but that was against the most improved side in the division this season, Newbury who are up to second place now.

Prediction: Stourbridge to return to winning ways with a 10 win over Nuneaton.

Wharfedale v Newbury

Second placed Newbury travel to seventh placed Wharfedale on their best run in years, probably since they came into this division.

Last week they were comprehensive winners at home to Nuneaton and then found out they had scooped the NCA Coach of the Month and Kicker of the Month again for November to follow on from their October success.

Wharfedale at home are capable of giving anybody a good game and will relish the chance to upset Newbury great run and take the points which could see them rise a couple of places up the table.

Prediction: Newbury to win by less than seven points.
