In at the Corner - National Three North

Bedford Athletic 50 (Tries: Grant, P Elphick, Rudkin, Anker. Cons: Cons: Tapper 2. Pens: Tapper 2.) 

Fylde 18 (Tries: Evans, King. Con: Green. Pens: Green 2.) 

Excellent home win for Ath with this victory over Fylde and now are within a point of second bottom Dudley, but they are still 10 points from safety. .  

Bedford got a great start and were 14-0 ahead after 11 minutes with tries form No 8 Scott Grant and centre Philip Elphick, both converted by Ashley Tapper.

Fylde though fought back with tries in the 20th minute from left wing Mark Evans and flanker Quentin King and with Paul Green adding a conversion they were back within two.

Before half time Bedford got a third try form flanker Jamie Rudkin to go in 19-12 ahead.

After the break Green added a couple of penalties for the visitors and Tapper one for the home side to make it 22-18 after 67 minutes.

Bedford sealed the win with a try from left wing Lee Anker, which secured the four try bonus point, and then a penalty goal from Tapper sealed the win. 

  

Blaydon 24 (Tries: Wright 2, Williams 2. Cons: Clappison 2.) 

Cleckheaton 36 (Tries: Dudley 2, Bentley, Worsley, Ackroyd. Cons: Ackroyd 4. Pen: Ackroyd.) 

Great win for Cleckheaton as they look to try and get out of the relegation zone. After this win they are level on points with Darlington and within three points of three more sides as the battle to avoid the drop hots up.

Blaydon were first on the scoreboard in the opening minute with scrum half Nick Williams touching down and Dan Clappison converting. They went further ahead with flanker Andrew Wright getting the second try for a 12-0 lead.

Cleckheaton were off the mark with right wing John Bentley touching down and Oliver Ackroyd converting. Before half time Wright got a second try and they went in 17-10 ahead with Ackroyd getting a penalty late in the half.

In the second half Williams got a second try eight minutes into the half and the home side were 24-10 ahead.

After this it was Cleckheaton who dominated with 26 unanswered points as they took all five points on offer with No 8 John Dudley bagging a brace with the last two tries.

 

Darlington 18 (Tries: Coulson 2, Glendenning. Pen: Kell.) 

Macclesfield 18 (Tries: Frost 2. Con: Newell. Pens: Newell 2.) 

This match ended all square with both sides desperate for the win for different reasons.

Macclesfield started the better and were 10-0 ahead after 29 minutes with Mike Newell slotting over an early penalty goal and the winger Mark Frost goes over for a try which Newell converted and it stayed that way till half time. .   

Full back David Glendenning got Darlington off the mark with a try on 46 minutes but five minutes later Frost got a second try for the visitors which took them 15-5 ahead.

Darlington then took over the scoring with right wing Francis Coulson went in for a brace of tries on 54 and 63 minutes, David Kell missed both conversion but did slot over a 73rd minute penalty goal.

A few minutes later Newell levelled it up with a penalty goal which was the way it stayed till the end with both sides getting a couple of points.

 

Dudley Kingswinford 7 (Try: Gowland. Con: Thomas.) 

Halifax 39 (Tries: Marns 2, Wilson, Spence, T Luteru, Penalty Try. Cons: Sanft 3. Pen: Sanft.) 

After a tight first half leaders Halifax ran away with this match in the second half to run out comfortable winners.

Halifax went ahead on 19 minutes with winger Oliver Marns touching down and the score was added to on 40 minutes with Douglas Sanft slotting over a penalty goal.

In the second half they were 22-0 ahead by the 51st minute with a penalty try and a try from second row Craig Wilson and Sanft adding the extras.

Ian Gowland got the home side off the mark with a 55th minute try converted by Philip Thomas but that was the end of their scoring with Halifax getting three tries in the final quarter to secure the win and make it 17 out of 17. 

 

Kendal 32 (Tries:  Coxon 2, Armstrong, Preston. Cons: Stephens 3. Pens: Stephens 2.) 

Darlington Mowden Park 7 (Try: Smithson. Con: Dixon.) 

Comfortable home win for Kendal at home to Darlington Mowden Park which moves them clear of the relegation zone but DMP are still in it, just two points clear of a relegation zone.   

Centre Martin Armstrong got the opening score with a try in the 10th minute converted by Dan Stephens who added a penalty goal as the home side went in 10-0 ahead.

In the second half they ran in three more tries to secure the bonus point as prop Billy Coxon went over for a double and the boot of Stephens adding seven more points as they went 32-0 ahead.

DMP did manage a late consolation try through flanker Jason Smithson converted by Iain Dixon.

 

New Brighton 20 (Tries: Planchant, Bradshaw, Mapp. Con: Dean. Pen: Dean.) 

Bradford & Bingley 20 (Tries: Makaafi, Simpson, Volshenk. Con: T Rhodes. Pen: T Rhodes.) 

Honours shared here with the Bees getting a share of the points after a late try.

New Brighton were 5-0 ahead after six minutes with flanker Chris Planchant touching down. The visitors were in front on 21 minutes with flanker Latu Makaafi touching down and Tom Rhodes converting for 7-5 and it stayed like that till half time.     

The Bees went further ahead with a try from winger JJ Simpson just after the break for a 12-5 lead.

New Brighton then bounced back with 15 points in nine minutes with Stephen Dean getting things moving with a 48th minute penalty goal. There were then tries for second row Richard Bradshaw and full back Tom Mapp to make it 20-12 after 57 minutes.

Rhodes pulled three points back before second row Rainer Volschenk went over for a try which Rhodes could not convert and it was two points each.

 

Rugby Lions 16 (Try: Douglas. Con: Bonds. Pens: Bonds 3.) 

Tynedale 19 (Tries: Massey, Duncan, MacLoughlin. Cons: Massey, Murray.) 

Rugby Lions went down to a home defeat and are now just a point above the relegation zone.

Tynedale after a poor spell returned to winning ways and were first on the scoreboard in this match with full back William Massy getting a try on seven minutes which he also converted for a 7-0 lead. Rugby though responded well and three minutes later were level with centre Tim Douglas touching down. Full back Glenn Bond converted and added a penalty goal to lead 10-7 after 18 minutes. 

On half time the visitors took the lead back with a try from right wing Ben Duncan converted by No 8 Andrew Murray with Massey off in the sin bin.

Bond kicked two early penalty goals in second half to go back into the lead at 16-14.

The winning score came in the 65th minute with left wing Matt MacLoughlin touching down.
