Big game for both sides with the home side coming out on top in a tight low scoring match which saw just the one try.
The home side went ahead on 40 minutes with Steve McCashin slotting over the first kick at goal of the afternoon to lead 3-0 at the break.
McCashin kicked penalties in the 42 and 62nd minutes to go 9-0 ahead. With time running out the visitors did manage to cross the home line with scrum half Rhys Lapidus touching down but it was too little to late and Blackheath took the points and are six points off the relegation zone, Park picked up a point and are four points behind Esher who are in 11th.
Bracknell 16 (Try: Budge. Con: Frost. Pens: Frost 3.)
Nuneaton 17 (Try: Peacock. Pens: Cull 4.)
Nuneaton just won’t go away and picked up another win and are now four points behind Rosslyn Park but still eight points from safety.
Full back Jody Peacock gave the home side the lead with a try in the opening minute but Andrew Frost kicked three penalty goals in the 4th, 29th and 36th minutes to see the home side 9-3 ahead. Just before the break it got better for the home side with left wing David Budge getting a try in the 37th minute and with Frost again on target they went in 16-5 ahead at the break,
In the second half Gareth Cull slotted over penalty goals in the 48th and 51st minutes to get Nuneaton back into the game. He then added penalties in the 76th and 80th minutes to snatch the win for Nuneaton.
Doncaster 63 (Tries: Liley 2, Van Vuuren 2, Williams 2, Yates, Cook, Meyer. Cons: Liley 6. Pens: Liley 2.)
Launceston 12 (Tries: Nancekivell, Lacey. Con: Stenhouse.)
Leaders Doncaster were comprehensive winners at home to Launceston and went a further point clear at the top and now lead Newbury by 11 points.
Rob Liley led the way with 28 points including a brace of tries. There were also double for wingers Donovan Van Vuuren, now second in the try scoring table, and Phil Williams. The bonus point was in the back by half time with Williams and Van Vuuren getting the first four tries between them.
Moseley 38 (Tries: Aston 2, Caves 2, A Bressington. Cons: Thomas 2. Pens: Thomas 3.)
Esher 30 (Tries: R Jennings, Smith, Wilkins, Mellors. Cons: Hallett 2. Pens: Hallett 2.)
Moseley are up to third place after this match in a high scoring match which also saw Esher pick up a four try bonus point.
Esher made a great start to the match and went in for two tries in the opening eight minutes for a 12-0 lead with No 8 Chris Wilkins and centre Ross Jennings touching down and Neil Hallett adding a conversion.
Two tries in tow minutes got the home side back in it on 20 minutes with full back Alistair Bressington and left wing James Aston going over for unconverted tries.
Prop Jeff Smith took Esher into a 19-10 lead with the third Esher try and Hallett converted. But the try scoring continued with Moseley getting their third try in the 29th minute and this time Ollie Thomas converted as they trailed 19-17. Before half time Hallett, one, and Thomas, two, exchanged penalty goals as the home side went in 23-22 ahead.
Hallett got the opening score in the second half with a penalty goal in the 55th minute to put the visitors back in front.
Moseley though took over the scoring then with 15 unanswered points with tries from hooker Adam Caves, his second of the match, and winger Aston who also completed a double and Thomas added five points with the boot for a 38-25 lead.
Esher got the final score of the match to secure a four try bonus point with replacement back row man Jason Mellors scoring the try against his former side.
Newbury 22 (Tries: Nutt 2, Bell. Cons: Harvey 2. Pen: Harvey.)
Harrogate 15 (Tries: Barker, Chester. Con: Cholewa. Pen: Cholewa.)
Second placed Newbury were home winners over Harrogate but held to seven points and failed to pick up the bonus point but are eight points clear of third placed Moseley.
It was Harrogate who were first on the scoreboard with centre Jamie Barker going in for a try in the 3rd minute. Newbury were level on 11 minutes with centre Duncan Bell touching down for 5-5.
Just before the half hour mark and the visitors were ahead again with scrum half Mark Chester scoring a try and this time Lee Cholewa converted. David Harvey pulled three points back before the break with a penalty goal as Harrogate went in 12-8 ahead.
In the second half Newbury scored two tries in eight minutes through their left wing Martin Nutt and with Harvey converting both they were 22-12 ahead after 63 minutes.
Harrogate pulled three points back in the 72nd minute to get back within seven and it secured them a losing bonus point which could prove crucial at the end of the season.
Waterloo 24 (Tries: Kerfoot 2, Blyth. Pens: Handley 2. DG: Handley.)
Manchester 12 (Tries: Lowden, Onyango. Con: Brown.)
Waterloo’s excellent recent run continued with this win over Manchester which took them above them in the table into 4th place.
Manchester were first on the scoreboard with winger Jonathan Lowden getting a 22nd minute try. Anthony Handley got three points on the board for Waterloo three minutes later. Manchester went even further ahead with a try from their flying winger Lucas Onyango, his 21st of the season, and with Stuart Brown converting they were 12-3 ahead. Handley pulled three points back before the break with a drop goal.
In the second half Handley got an early penalty goal before they ran in three tries to take control and the win. Winger Neil Kerfoot bagged a brace and lock David Blyth got the tries but they all went unconverted.
Wharfedale 18 (Tries: Malherbe, A Lovatt. Con: Davies. Pens: Davies 2.)
Stourbridge 27 (Tries: Ewens 2, Yiend, Rowley 2. Con: Harvey.)
After a tight first half Stourbridge pulled away in the second half to stop Wharfedale doing the double over them in the league this season.
Jonathan Davies gave the home side the lead early on with a penalty goal. Stourbridge though scored two tries in two minutes with centre Joe Ewens getting them both for a 10-3 lead after 19 minutes. Three minutes later and the Wharfedale centre Chris Malherbe went in for a try in the final scoring of the first half which saw Stourbridge lead 10-8.
Early in the second half Davies kicked the home side ahead again with a penalty goal. After that Stourbridge took over with three tries to go 27-11 ahead. The tries came from right wing Ross Yiend, and then a double from William Rowley.
Winger Andrew Lovatt got a consolation try for the home side and Davies converted. Stourbridge had three players sent to the sin bin at various times in the match but still came out on top. |
