In at the Corner - National Three South

Barking 32 (Tries: Kellard, Rudgeley, Williams, Penalty try. Cons: Montgomery 3. Pens: Montgomery, Helmand.) 

Old Patesians 19 (Tries: Penalty try, Daws 2. Cons: Nunn 2.) 

Barking kept their winning run going with this home win over Old Patesians, the last side to beat them in the league.  

Barking made a great start and were 14-0 ahead in the opening 10 minutes with tries form flanker James Kellard and fly half Ian Rudgeley both converted by Ben Montgomery back on the kicking duties after his injury problems.

The visitors did get on the scoreboard when the referee awarded them a penalty try in the 16th minute and Russell Nunn converted. Ehan Helmand kicked a penalty for the home side with Montgomery of for a blood injury and then winger Lloyd Williams went in for a try to send the home side in 22-7 ahead after the opening 40 minutes.

Early in the second half Old Pats got right back in the match with a double for flanker Simon Daws and with Nunn adding a conversion they were just three points behind at 22-19.

It took till the 72nd minute for Barking to score again with Montgomery slotting over a penalty goal and then in injury time the bonus point was secured with the referee awarding them a penalty try and Montgomery added the extras.

 

Havant 48 (Tries: Avery 2, Petzer 2, Morgan, Cruddas, Grunow, Ruthven. Cons: Cobbe 2, Claffey 2.) 

Tabard 10 (Tries: Colborne 2.) 

Havant continue their good season and remain sixth in the table six points clear of Hertford and now just four points behind fifth placed Dings Crusaders.  

Four tries in the first half saw the home side build up a 22-5 lead and secure the four try bonus point for the 8th time this season.

It was the backs that did the damage with six of the eight tries including a double for Cam Avery to take him to 15 for the season, second in the try scorers list. There was also a double for the full back Anton Petzer.

For Tabard there were two tries from full back Rob Colborne but they need to start finding some wins as they are now 10 points off safety.

  

Hertford 33 (Tries: Barella, Roberts, Church. Cons: Barella 3. Pens: Barella 4.) 

Lydney 12 (Tries: Westall, Price. Con: Westall.) 

Hertford’s great season continued with this home success over fourth placed Lydney as they sit a highly creditable seventh in the National Three South league table.

Neil Barella got the home side off the mark with a 2nd minute penalty goal but 11 minutes later and the visitors were ahead. They got a try from Full back Adam Westall which he also converted for 7-3. Barella then took over the scoring to see the home side 13-7 ahead at the break. He went over for a try added the conversion and then put over a penalty goal.

Early in the second half and prop Paul Price got the second Lydney try and there was just a point in it at 13-12.

After this Hertford dominated the scoring with Barella kicking a couple of penalty goal and when right wing Adam Roberts went over on 60 minutes and Barella converting they were 26-12 ahead.

They sealed the win when flanker Alfie Church went over for a 76th minute try which was again converted by Barella kicked seven out of eight on the day for an excellent return.    

 

North Walsham 31 (Tries: Thorpe, Smeeth, Rossouw, Pierce, Thomas. Cons: Borrett 3.) 

Reading 12 (Tries: Smart, Johnson. Con: Chandler.) 

North Walsham did what they had to do in what could have been a difficult match against an in form Reading side and took all five points. 

The home side were behind early on when centre Rob Smart went in for a try converted by Spike Chandler. The home side though hit back quickly with flanker Tom Pierce touching down and Chris Borrett adding the conversion.

After that score the home side scored three more in the half to go in 24-7 ahead. There were tries for wing Ted Smeeth, full back Andy Thorpe and hooker Gideon Rossouw and Borrett slotting over one of the conversions.

After the break the home side went further ahead with a 58th minute try converted by Borrett.

The visitors did manage the final score with a try from No 8 Tom Johnson, his 12th of the season.  

 

Redruth 34 (Tries: Pedley 2, Brown, Pascoe, Vinnicombe. Cons: Brown 3. Pen: Brown.) 

Dings Crusaders 3 (Pen: Weaver.) 

Redruth kept the pressure on the top two with another win as they ran out comfortable home winners over Dings Crusaders.

The first half was a close run thing with the sides going in level at 3-3. Dean Weaver gave the visitors the lead in the 8th minute but Bede Brown levelled in the 27th minute.

Seven minutes into the second half and it had all changed with Redruth scoring two tries through Brown and flanker Nathan Pascoe and with Brown adding a conversion they were 15-3 ahead.

Right wing Lewis Vinnicombe was next over the Dings line for his 12th try of the season.  

Winger Nathaniel Pedley bagged a double late in the match to take him to 18 for the season three clear of anyone else in the division.

 

Southend 45 (Tries: Du Toit 3, B Green, McMahon, Hyde, Connors. Cons: Du Toit 5.) 

Haywards Heath 14 (Tries: Ashton, Kuwana. Cons: Ashton 2.) 

Comfortable home win for Southend running in seven tries and the bonus point in the bag before the break as they led 24-7 after the opening 40 minutes.

Leading the way for the home side was Jaco Du Toit with a hat trick of tries and five conversions in a 25 point haul.

The visitors did manage a couple of tries through full back Owen Ashton and debutante prop Sungu Kuwana.  

 

Westcombe Park 39 (Tries: Littlechild, Penalty try, De Kock, Chitty, Hardcastle. Con: Barnett. Pens: Barnett 4.) 

Weston super Mare 29 (Tries: Denbee, Williams, Jonker, Vucicevic. Cons: Jonker 3. Pen: Jonker.) 

Big game for both sides and it was Combe who took the points in a high scoring match.

It was the home side who took the lead when wing Carlton Littlechild went in for a 6th minute try and a 5-0 lead. Weston though responded with tries in the 18th and 23rd minutes form flanker Michael Denbee and centre Matthew Williams and with Morne Jonker converting both they were 14-5 ahead.

Sam Barnett slotted over three successful penalties in a row to square it up at 14 all after 32 minutes.  They were level for a minute before Jonker put Weston ahead with a try but before the break the home side regained the lead with a penalty try and Barnett converted for a 21-19 lead.

In the second half Combe went further ahead with a try six minutes in from full back Gert De Kock but Jonker pulled three points back for the visitors.

The home side went further ahead with No 8 Rupert Chitty touching down, to secure the four try bonus point, and Barnett adding a penalty a few minutes later for a 34-22 lead.

Weston got their four try bonus point on 66 minutes and secured the four try bonus point when right wing Goran Vucicevic went in for a try and Jonker converted. In the 77th minute flanker Ian Hardcastle secured the win for the home side with a try.
