Basingstoke did their hopes of avoiding the drop a real boost with this away success at Silver Leys as they ended a two match losing run and are two points better off than Sutton with a better points difference.
In the first half the visitors built up a 12-0 lead with tries from fly half Sebastian Berti and hooker Pete Maxwell and full back Simon Humberstone converted one of them.
In the second half centre Stuart Haslam pulled three points back with a penalty goal but two form Humberstone saw Basingstoke go 18-3 ahead in the 76th minute.
A minute later Haslam went over for a try and added the conversion but the visitors sealed the win in injury time when wing Buckland went over and Humberstone converted.

Cambridge’s great winning run went on with this comprehensive win over bottom of the table Thanet Wanderers but they remain in second place as Worthing have a better points difference.
The home side ran in eight tries with flanker Monty Pienaar getting a hat trick with tries in the 10th, 52nd and 58th minutes. Fly half Tom Dann converted seven of the eight tries.
Centre Ed Merivale scored two first half tries for the visitors and they were both converted by Gareth Redmond and added a penalty as they were still in it at half time losing 21-17. The second half was a different story with five second half tries and Thanet drew a blank in the second 40 minutes.

Old Albanians 32 (Tries: Ebongalame 2, Burger, Vercoe, Botterman. Cons: Orchard 2. Pen: Orchard.)
Bad defeat for Old Colfeians who would have targeted this as a winning match as they look to avoid the drop but with Sutton losing Old Colfeians stay out of the relegation zone.
The home side went 8-0 up with hooker Boulton getting a try and Andrew Muldoon slotting over a penalty for 8-0 after eight minutes.
Old Albanians came back and by half time they were 17-8 ahead. Wingers Thomas Vercoe and Muna Ebongalame both touched down and full back Ed Orchard added a conversion.
In the second half Orchard slotted over a penalty goal five minutes in but a minute later they saw the gap closed with winger Nick Miller touching and Muldoon converting.
The visitors finished the stronger pulling away for a comfortable win with hooker Greg Botterman and Ebongalame crossing the home line.

Richmond return to winning ways after last weeks loss at Old Albanians last week with this comfortable home success over Canterbury whom they go above in the table. .
They got a great start with a try in the opening minute from winger Joseph Ajuma and with Full back Matt Brown getting a second on 12 minutes they were 10-0 ahead. They got a third try from centre Dan Connolly and with Andy lee converting this one they led 17-0 after 29 minutes. Lee added a penalty before half time to go in 20-0 ahead.
The home side went further ahead on 57 minutes with scrum half Dan Taberner touching down. Lee added a second penalty goal before Connolly finished of the scoring with the fifth home try in the 74th minute.
Sutton & Epsom 19 (Try: C Richens. Con: Frost. Pens: Frost 4.)
London Nigerian 28 (Tries: Essian 2, Olufunwa, Ebuwei. Cons: Latter 4.)
London Nigerian gave themselves some hope of escaping the drop with this win over fellow strugglers Sutton & Epsom.
The home side led at the break 9-7 with three Sam Frost penalty goals whilst the visitors scored the games first try and Ed Latter converted.
In the second half London Nigerian opened up with some excellent running rugby to come out winners and secure two valuable points in the battle to avoid the drop and they have now won back to back for the first time this season and three of their last four matches. .
Worthing 20 (Tries: Stephens 2, Coulson. Con: Coulson. Pen: Coulson.)
London Scottish 11 (Try: Janke. Pens: McCarthy 2.)
Worthing recovered from their defeat against Cambridge last week with this excellent win at home to London Scottish and remain top on points difference.
The visitors were first on the scoreboard when Colman McCarthy slotted over a 17th minute goal. The home side though took the lead on 28 minutes when wing Gavin Stephens went in for a try and a 5-3 lead which they took into the break.
Early in the second half and a second McCarthy penalty goal saw the visitors ahead again. The lead lasted just seven minutes before a Ben Coulson penalty goal saw Worthing ahead again. Second row Clynton Janke gave the Scottish the lead again on 55 minutes with a try for 11-8. After this it was the home side who did all the scoring with Stephens getting a second try on 64 minutes and a narrow 13-11 lead. The match was not won till injury time when Coulson went over for a try and added the conversion and two valuable points were secured. |
