In at the Corner - Powergen South West One

Cheltenham 30 (Tries: Williams, Watters, Pitman, Bridgens. Cons: Parker 2. Pens: Parker 2.) 

Gloucester Old Boys 3 (Pen: Rayer.) 

After eight successive losses this was the win Cheltenham needed to make sure they stay away from the relegation zone. They are now five points off a relegation place with four matches remaining. 

GOB were first on the scoreboard when Tom Rayer slotted over an 8th minute penalty goal. The lead lasted 10 minutes before second row Kristian Williams touched down and the home side were 5-3 ahead.  They went further ahead when centre Phil Watters, on his return t the club after a spell at Stourbridge, went in for a try and this time David Parker converted for 12-3.

In the second half they pulled further ahead with two more tries and eight points form the boot of Parker.

 

Chinnor 52 (Tries: Cathcart, Whelan, Thompson, Oxley, Milburn, Hutchings. Cons: Cathcart 5. Pens: Cathcart 4.) 

Oxford Harlequins 6 (Pens: Noyce 2.) 

Chinnor were convincing home winners over Oxford Harlequins to remain in fifth place in the Powergen South West One league table.

James Cathcart kicked the home side into a 6-0 lead with a couple of penalty goals. Andy Noyce kicked three points for the visitors before Cathcart went in for the games opening try in the 30th minute and he converted for 13-3. The home side went in 18-3 ahead at the break with hooker Tom Whelan touching down.

The boot dominated the third quarter with Cathcart kicking two more penalty goals and Noyce adding a second for the visitors. The fourth quarter though was a different story with the home side scoring 28 unanswered points through four converted tries for a 46 point win.  

 

Cinderford 38 (Tries: JP Goatley, Fanolua, Matthews, Patea. Cons: Trigg 3. Pens: Trigg 4.) 

St Mary’s Old Boys 7 (Try: Gill. Con: Martin.) 

Cinderford ran out comfortable winners after a tight first half which saw the home side go in 11-7 ahead.

Trigg gave the home side a 4th minute lead with a penalty goal but in the 17th minute Tupe Fanolua scored the games opening try, Trigg missed the conversion but made it 11-0 on 35 minutes with a second penalty goal. Gill pulled three points back for the visitors just before the break.

In the second half it was a different story with the home side doing all the scoring. Trigg slotted over a couple more penalty goals before three converted tries saw the home side pull away for a comfortable win. Trigg finished the match with 18 points to remain in second place in the leading points scorers.   

 

 

 

 

Clevedon 10 (Try: Pearce. Con: Lowis. Pen: Lowis.) 

Bridgwater & Albion 67 (Tries: Leung Wei 5, Hancock 2, Griffiths 2. Cons: George 8. Pens: George 2.) 

Bridgwater’s scoring machine continues with a nine try demolition of Clevedon. The damage was done in the first half with Albion running five tries after Mike Lowis and Andrew George exchanged penalty goals in the opening 14 minutes.

Albion went on to run in five first half tries, all from their back and centre Leung Wei grabbed a hat trick. 

George added a second penalty early in the second half but four more tries again all came from the backs with Leung Wei taking his tally to five in the match. George ended the match with 22 points converting eight of the nine tries and adding a couple of penalty goals at the start of each half.

 

Clifton 38 (Tries: B Kent, McQuaid, Butcher, Hardy. Cons: Barnes 3. Pens: Barnes 2. D: Barnes 2.) 

Maidenhead 20 (Tries: Mueller, Morgan. Cons: Hawkins 2. Pens: Hawkins.) 

This looked a tough match on paper with Maidenhead showing some great form in the second half of the season.

Clifton had the better of the first half and went in 18-10 ahead after tries form centre Barnaby Kent and left wing Matt McQuaid and eight points form the boo of Jon Barnes. The visitors managed a try through No 8 Piers Morgan and Rob Hawkins added the conversion having slotted over a penalty early in the match.

Hawkins pulled three points back right after the break but Barnes then dropped a couple of goals for the home side to make it 24-13 after an hour. Tries from forwards Carl Bucher and Eddie Smith, converted by Barnes saw the go 38-13 ahead after 74 minutes. Maidenhead did manage a second try in injury time with second row Mark Mueller touching down and Hawkins added the extras but by then the home side were home and try in the battle for second place.  .   

 

Penryn 16 (Try: J Mann. Con: Pascoe. Pens: Pascoe 3.) 

Keynsham 15 (Tries: Harwood, Tanner. Con: Slee. Pen: Slee.) 

Just the win that Penryn needed to pull four points clear of the relegation zone with just four matches remaining.

Keynsham continued their improved form of late and went into a 15-0 lead with tries from wing Russell Tanner and full back Mark Harwood whilst David Slee added a conversion and a penalty in the opening 27 minutes.

Dave Pascoe pulled three points back before half time with a penalty goal.

In the second half Pascoe narrowed the gap with two more penalty goals before flanker James Mann went over for a try and Pascoe added the vital kicked to give the home side the lead for the first time in the 72nd minute, a lead they held onto for two valuable points.
