NCA AWARDS FEBRUARY

NATIONAL TWO

COACH of the MONTH

Pieter Muller – Doncaster

Pieter Muller picks up the award for the second month running with three wins out of three with an impressive home win over Launceston and good away wins at Nuneaton and Manchester.

Pieter Muller is in his first season as a full time coach. His playing career brought him 33 caps for South Africa, including the 1999 World Cup, and Super 12 rugby for Natal Sharks. He joined Cardiff Blues in 2000 and made 80 appearances for them, during which time he developed a coaching interest and took his Coaching Qualifications in Wales. He assisted in coaching the Wales U19 and U21 squads and is developing his skills by doing a MSc Coaching Science degree. Despite approaches from more glamorous clubs, he chose to move to Doncaster this season as Director of Rugby Development where he saw the opportunity learn every aspect of rugby management with a progressive club.

Pieter, on hearing of the award said “I am again delighted to accept the award on behalf of the players and coaching team at Castle Park. We did play really well throughout the month and our wins against Manchester and Launceston saw us playing a level of rugby worthy of our league topping position. May it continue!”

PLAYER of the MONTH

Freeman Payne – Waterloo

2nd: Isaac Richmond (Manchester). 3rd: Ed Norris (Doncaster).

Waterloo centre Freeman Payne picks up the NCA Players of the Month award for February.

Phil Winstanley said on hearing of Freeman’s award ‘’Freeman was asked at the start of the season to take over the captaincy of the team. He took a little time to settle into the role and this affected his game a little. Since Christmas he has developed more as a leader and his confidence has grown as a result. He has found some form again and is getting back to the levels he is capable of. I still think that we will see
more of Freeman this year and that the best is still to come. We need to
keep the pressure on Moseley and Newbury at the top of the league and
Freeman will, of course, play a huge part in how successful the team will be
in the end of season run-in."

Freeman commented ‘’Acknowledgements like these are always welcomed and are a pleasant way to end a great month for the Club as a whole.  My job has been made easier by having such a positive response from the squad and allowing me to settle
back into my playing routine and doing what i do best.’’

KICKER of the MONTH

Stephen McCashin – Blackheath

Stephen McCashin of Blackheath picks up the Kicker of the month award for February. During the month he slotted over 14 of his 17 attempts at goal for an impressive 82.53%.

2nd: Rob Liley (Doncaster 79.17%). 3rd: Ollie Thomas (Moseley 65.22%). (Minimum qualification 10 attempts at goal during the month.)
