NCA AWARDS FEBRUARY 2005
NATIONAL THREE NORTH
COACH of the MONTH
David Harrison - Cleckheaton
Cleckheaton Coach David Harrison has formed a fruitful partnership over the last two years with Director of Rugby John Bentley. Formerly a player, captain and coach with Heath RUFC in Halifax, he has honed his skills as a coach with Leeds Tykes Player Development Squads and was brought to Moorend highly recommended by the Headingley staff.
Essentially Cleckheaton improvement has been a 'team' effort with Harrison and Bentley aptly supported by Physio staff Guy Rumbold and Bob Wade and the organisational acumen of new team manager Ian Johnson. On the playing front, the forward unit has continued to develop from essentially a young front row, through to the experience and leadership qualities of Geoff Jones, Craig Rika and John Dudley.

"This season has been a steep learning curve for everyone. With the benefit of experience we have simplified our game plan and our more direct approach has started to pay dividends" - Dave Harrison
PLAYER of the MONTH
Dave Muckalt – Macclesfield
Macclesfield’s player coach, back row forward, Dave Muckalt picks up the February NCA Player of the Month award. Dave has been delighted with the way the players have responded this season and this has allowed him to spend a bit more time on his game which has shown in his and the teams overall performance as Macclesfield lead the way for the play off place.
The club have adjusted well this season to National League rugby after a shaky first season. David is now showing the kind of form he knows he can produce week in week out and he was used to when playing at a higher level in National One not too many seasons ago.
2: Renier Volschenk (Bradford & Bingley). 3: Moritz Botha (Bedford Athletic).
KICKER of the MONTH
Paul Green – Fylde
Paul Green wins N3(N) Kicker of the Month award for February The NCA has announced that Fylde's Paul Green has won the latest Kicker of the Month award in National Three (North). Paul Green, 30, is an experienced and versatile centre, fullback or wing who had spells with Orrell, Rotherham, Nottingham & Longton before joining Fylde at the beginning of this season. He's 6'3", 15st and has a howitzer left foot that has proved immensely useful since Fylde skipper and accomplished goal kicker Mike Scott was ruled out of competitive action in early December. Paul was born and grew up in Lancashire and attended school in Chorley. He has represented Lancashire Colts and Staffordshire County's senior side. He is a teacher in Stoke-on-Trent. Paul Green said: "Taking over the goal kicking from Mike Scott hasn't been easy. He has such an outstanding record that he's a hard act to follow. Most of the pressure on me is self imposed as I don't want to let the Fylde lads down. I'm delighted to have made my contribution." Fylde Coach Stuart Connell said: "Since joining the club Paul has proved to be a good asset. He has an all round game, is a tremendous athlete and has proved an able replacement kicker for Mike Scott since the beginning of December. His versatility has given us much needed options on the field and I think there is still more to come from Paul within what is still a developing squad."
2nd: Oliver Akroyd (Cleckheaton) 3rd Douglas Sanft (Halifax).
