NCA AWARDS FEBRUARY 2005
NATIONAL THREE SOUTH
COACH of the MONTH
Nigel Hambly – Redruth
The NCA Coaching Award for February goes to Nigel Hambly and his team at Redruth who have closed the gap on the top two in recent weeks and have a tremendous unbeaten run in the league of 14 matches.
Nigel was the assistant coach for the last 2 years and took over last summer.
Before that he played over 100 national league games for Redruth. H e also coached the colts with Simon Blake in his first bout of coaching.
On hearing of the award Nigel commented ‘‘the award is also nice for our Rugby Manager Dave Penberthy who does a fantastic job off the field. A big thank you also for my assistant coaches Bede Brown and Andy Hawken. This is a great award for the club and our fans who have shown fantastic support home and away and for this I thank them.’’
PLAYER of the MONTH
Tom Johnson – Reading
2nd: Alfie Church (Hertford). 3rd: Dan Goodwin (Redruth).
Reading No 8 Tom Johnson picks up the February award for Player of the Month in his first season at the club having joined during the summer from Chinnor.
This season he has played 23 games, 21 league and two cup. All his 13 tries have come in league games. He tends to score in open play rather than from running off the scrum - he is very quick in support and is a job to catch once he gets away.
KICKER of the MONTH
Owen Ashton – Haywards Heath
Hayward’s Heath full Owen Ashton picks up the February Kicker of the month award with an impressive 82.35% strike rate
Ian Davies, Director of Rugby at Haywards Heath commented on hearing about the award ‘To score so many points this season in a team that has struggled to collectively score (304) is testimony to his accuracy and consistency.
Owen has also improved his general play to a standard that now has seen him move from last season's bit part player to an important part of the 1st XV.
In a season that was has been very bleak at least the club will have one trophy in the cabinet at the final knockings!!! But who knows if Owen keeps up his tremendous post Christmas form then he may pick up another this month or next.’
2nd: Bede Brown (Redruth). 3rd: Adam Westall (Lydney). (Minimum qualification 10 attempts at goal during the month.) |
