In at the Corner - Powergen South West One

Gloucester Old Boys 12 (Tries: Mutuma, Rawlings. Con: Baker.) 

Penryn 45 (Tries: J Mann 2, C Mann, Brown, Short, Webster. Cons: Pascoe 3. Pens: Pascoe 3.)  

Penryn’s recent revival continues with this excellent away win at Gloucester Old Boy’s who are all but relegated now with just three matches remaining and they need to win all three matches to have a chance of getting out of trouble.  

It was the Old Boys who opened the scoring with an early try from winger Kuda Mutuma and fly half George Baker added the conversion.

By half time the match was over with Penryn opening up a 32-7 lead and the home side down to 14 men with a player red carded. Flanker James Mann led the way in the opening 40 with a brace of tries. In the second half they added a couple more tries to comfortable take the points and pull even further clear of the relegation zone.

 

Maidenhead 25 (Tries: Hammond, Mackay, Bullock. Cons: Hawkins 2. Pens: Hawkins.) 

Cinderford 62 (Tries: Patea 3, Bazeley 2, Roberts, Smye, Virgin, Trigg. Cons: Trigg 7. Pen: Trigg.) 

Cinderford continued their march towards the Powergen South West One title with this away success at Maidenhead. 

Cinderford’s Samoan flanker ran in a first half hat trick of tries to help his side go in at the break 22-13 ahead. In the second half they added another six tries with wing Richard Bazeley bagging a brace whilst Daniel Trigg had another big game scoring 22 points.  

 

St Mary’s Old Boys 10 (Try: Harraway. Con: Martin. Pen: Martin.) 

Clevedon 11 (Try: O’Rourke. Pen: Glen 2.) 

Huge game for both sides and it was Clevedon who left Norwood Park with the win.

They were ahead in the 5th minute when Paul Glen slotted over a penalty goal. The home side responded near half time with a try from scrum half Mark Harraway converted by Jonathan Martin who a few minutes later put over a penalty goal for 10-3.

Glen pulled three more points back 15 minutes into the second half and in the 65th minute they took the lead with a try from centre Tom O’Rourke in what was the final score of the half. .

 

Bridgwater 35 (Tries: Satala 2, Bryant, Woodhouse, Griffiths, Meyer. Con: George. Pen: George.) 

Chinnor 29 (Tries: Thompson, Burrows, Winslade, Ward. Cons: Cathcart 3. Pen: Cathcart.) 

Bridgwater took control of the match either side of half time and were given a couple of nervous minutes with Chinnor closing to within six points late on.  

The home side made a good start and it looked like Chinnor were going to be in for a long afternoon with two tries in the opening nine minutes through prop James Bryant and wing Manoa Satala. Chinnor though held their own and by the half hour mark were all level at 10 apiece with James Cathcart slotting over a penalty goal and then converting a try from scrum half Martin Thompson. Bridgwater though went 10 points ahead again as Satala got a second try and then scrum half Stu Woodhouse went in for tries very late in the half.

Early in the second Andrew George kicked a penalty goal and then converted a try from right wing Mike Griffiths as they opened up a 20 point lead.

Both sides exchanged tries but in the final 10 minutes the visitors scored two more and move to 35-29 in injury time.

 

Oxford Harlequins 54 (Tries: Nutt, Pooler, Noyce, Searle, Cope, Mawle 2, Ashton 2. Cons: Noyce 3. Pen: Noyce.) 

Cheltenham 19 (Tries: Edwards 2, Whitney. Cons: Parker 2.) 

Excellent home win for Oxford Harlequins running in eight tries with this comprehensive win which puts them six points clear of the relegation zone with three games remaining. .  

The home side made a great start and were 19-0 ahead in the opening nine minutes with the backs scoring all three of them.

Cheltenham pulled five points back with right wing Jonathan Edwards touching down. Andy Noyce extended the lead with a penalty goal but two more tries saw them open up an unassailable 32-5 lead with half time approaching although the visitors did pull seven points back with Edwards getting a second try and full back Dave Parker converting.

They notched another four tries in the second half to keep the scoreboard ticking over and Cheltenham managed just the one.

Keynsham 7 (Try: J Thompson. Con: Edson.) 

Clifton 37 (Tries: Viol 3, Matthews 2. Cons: Barnes 3. Pens: Barnes 2.) 

Clifton kept the pressure on Bridgwater with an away success over Keynsham pulling away in the second half after going in 13-7 ahead at the break. The visitors took a 7-0 lead on 10 minutes with full back Rob Viol touching down and Jon Barnes slotted over the conversion before adding a penalty goal Before half time the home side went in for a try with flanker Jamie Thompson scoring and Paul Edson converting but Barnes added a second penalty before the half time whistle.

In the second half Clifton took complete control with four tries as Viol went on to complete a hat trick and centre James Matthews bagged a brace.
