After 18 successive wins Halifax lose their 100% record for the season with this draw at Reeds Lane against New Brighton.
Halifax were first on the scoreboard with Douglas Sanft kicking a 10th minute penalty goal which was cancelled out six minutes later by Anthony Birley. The home side took the lead on 22 minutes with second row Richard Bradshaw touching down for an unconverted try, Sanft added a second penalty goal as the home side went in 8-6 ahead.
In the second half two tries in two minutes saw the home side open up a 20-6 lead and a shock looked on the cards as wingers Stephen Ashcroft and Alistair Child went in for tries and Birley added one conversion.
Just after the hour mark and the visitors pulled seven points back with left wing Oliver Marns touching down and Sanft converting. They drew level in the 74th minute with replacement back David Hall going over the New Brighton line and Sanft converting to snatch the draw and maintain their unbeaten run.
Kendal 10 (Try: J Ladell. Con: Armstrong. Pen: Dodds.)
Macclesfield 19 (Tries: Frost 2, Jones. Cons: Newell 2.)
A win is a win for Macclesfield in this win at Mint Bridge against Kendal and are seven points clear of Bradford & Bingley in the race for second spot.
Macclesfield were in front with right wing Mark Frost continuing his good recent form with his 11th try of the season in the 12th minute and a 5-0 lead.
Three minutes later though the home side were ahead with right wing John Ladell going in for his 15th try of the season and with Martin Armstrong converting they were 7-5 ahead. Later in the half Paul Dodds slotted over a penalty goal and Kendal went in 10-5 ahead at the break.
In the second half it took the visitors eight minutes to regain the lead with flanker Richard Jones going in for a try and with Michael Newell converting they were 12-10 ahead. They sealed the win in the 67th minute when they opened up a nine point lead with Frost getting try number 12 for the season and Newell again converted.
Bedford Athletic 10 (Try: Rudkin. Con: Richards. Pen: Richards.)
Bradford & Bingley 36 (Tries: Makaafi 2, Tafa, Brits, Simpson, Yates. Cons: T Rhodes 2, Simpson.)
After a closely fought first half Bradford & Bingley pulled away in the second half for a comfortable win and more importantly they got the four try bonus point to pull a point back on second placed Macclesfield.
The home side took the lead when flanker Jamie Rudkin went in for a 7th minute try which was converted by Chris Richards. The lead lasted just two minutes with flanker Latu Makaafi crossing the home line and Tom Rhodes converted. Bedford went back in front in the 15th minute with a Richard’s penalty goal. The game changed in a five minute spell just before the break with tries from centre Lisiate Tafu and prop Rudolph Brits to send the visitors I 17-10 ahead.
In the second half they had the bonus point secured four minutes into the second half with winger JJ Simpson going in for a try and adding the conversion with Tom Rhodes in the sin bin. Two more tries in the last 10 minutes sealed the win for the visitors.
Darlington Mowden Park 18 (Tries: Smithson, Bedworth. Con: Bedworth. Pens: Bedworth 2.)
Tynedale 11 (Try: Holmes. Pens: Massey 2.)
Huge win for Darlington Mowden Park with this home success over Tynedale which sees them move out of the relegation zone into 10th place in the battle to avoid the drop.
The home side were ahead in the 5th minute when flanker Jason Smithson touched down for a 5-0 lead. Two minutes later and the visitors were off the mark with William Massey slotting over a penalty goal. The returning Mark Bedworth kicked a penalty for the home side on his return from injury and they took the 8-3 lead into the break.
Massey got a second penalty goal four minutes into the second half But on the hour Bedworth went in for a try added the conversion and DMP were 15-6 ahead.
Six minutes later and Tynedale were over the home line with scrum half Edward Holmes touching down to get within four.
Bedworth wrapped up the win with a 79th minute penalty goal for four very valuable points.
Blaydon 7 (Try: Marwick. Con: Clappison.)
Darlington 26 (Tries: Snook, Glendenning. Cons: Kell 2. Pens: Kell 4.)
Disastrous defeat for Blaydon at home to North East rival Darlington and are a point off the relegation zone.
Flanker Dave Marwick gave the home side a good start with a try in the 6th minute converted by Dan Clappison for a 7-0 lead. Darlington responded well and three minutes later were level with centre Ben Snook touching down and David Kell added the conversion. Kell took the visitors into the lead with a couple of penalty goal and with full back David Glendenning touching down in the 33rd minutes, Kell converted and Darlington took a 20-7 lead into the break.
The only scores of the second half came from the visitors with Kell adding two more penalty goals to give his side four very valuable points for 8th spot and they are level on points with 7th placed Kendal.
Rugby Lions 20 (Try: Carson. Pens: Bond 5.)
Dudley Kingswinford 20 (Tries: Connett, W Port. Cons: McLellan 2. Pens: McLellan 2)
Two points are better than none but both would have preferred the full four. The Lions were first on the scoreboard with full back Glen Bon slotting over a 26th minute penalty goal. Six minutes later though and Dudley K were in front with a try from No 8 Ben Connett and Andy McLellan converted and then followed that up with a penalty goal for 10-3. Bond replied for the home side with a second penalty goal but centre Warren Port got the second DK try in injury time and with McLellan converting they were 17-6 ahead.
Two penalties in the opening 13 minutes of the second half saw Rugby back in touch five points behind. McLellan took the visitors eight points clear with a 70th minute penalty goal leaving the home side needing a couple of scores to get back in it.
In the 73rd minute replacement back row man Glen Carson touched down, Bond missed the conversion but in the 79th minute levelled the scores with his fifth penalty goal but it was not enough to stop them slipping into the relegation zone.
Fylde 58 (Tries: Reeves 2, Evans, King, Webster, Moffat, Long, Green. Cons: Green 4, Kenyon 2. Pens: Green, Kenyon.)
Cleckheaton 22 (Tries: .Rika, Benton 2, Dudley. Con: Green)
Not known for the try scoring prowess Fylde ran in eight tries on Saturday for a comfortable win over Cleckheaton at Woodlands running out 58-22 winners with Cleckheaton picking up a four try bonus point.
Full back Paul Green gave the home side the lead in the 14th minute with a penalty goal but in the 29th minute the visitors took the lead with second row Craig Rika touching down. By half time the home side had scored three tries in a seven minute spell to turn the match in their favour. With tries form wing Mark Evans, centre Paul Reeves and flanker Quentin King, his 13th of the season, and Fylde went in 22-5 ahead with Green adding a couple of conversions.
They continued running in the tries in the second half with three tries in the opening 10 minutes of the second half and were 41-5 ahead. Cleckheaton did manage to cross the home line with influential scrum half Scot Benton bagging a brace as the tries continued to flow with Fylde also scoring a couple more tries before Cleckheaton picked up their bonus point in the 78th minute with No 8 John Dudley touching down. |
