Aldermaston’s under 8 tag rugby team fulfilled an ambition most rugby players can only dream when they ran out on the hallowed Twickenham turf on Saturday.
The eleven Berkshire juniors played tag rugby in front of a 35,000 strong crowd at the Guinness Premiership season curtain-raiser double header.
Aldermaston RFC won the golden opportunity to showcase their talents after being rewarded for their demonstration of sportsmanship and good behaviour in a tag rugby tournament held at Harlequins’ Stoop ground. They were invited to the event by Aldermaston’s Community Development Partners London Irish, who took on Leeds in the Guinness Premiership clash.
Ryan Yeoman from Aldermaston RFC said: “The experience was overwhelming - some of the coaches were even awestruck about playing at Twickenham - but the boys and girls put everything into the game and enjoyed their day immensely.
“We came away feeling very proud. Every child was a credit to both Aldermaston and London Irish and we look forward to this partnership developing further in the future.”
Aldermaston run tag rugby sessions every Sunday at 10am at the Aldermaston AWE Recreational Society playing fields. Aldermaston is supported by Berkshire Sports Partnership and the RFU.
