Old Leamingtonians Ladies Celebrate Quality Team

The Annual Awards dinner for Old Leamingtonians Ladies was proof of the mix between new and experienced players that the team has managed to attract in the past season. The first award of the night was for Forward of the Year 2004 - 2005. This award went to Christine Lycett. Throughout the season, she has proved a determined player, frequently making a difference by scoring tries at important moments. After being used as Scrum Half last season, she was back in her favourite position as Prop. Her line-out lifting was great and she has proved herself an important, reliable team player.

The award for Back of the Year 2004 – 2005 went to Vice Captain and Fly Half Vicky Stokes. Vicky has been playing for Old Leamingtonians since she was a Mini but has only now won the award for Back of the Year. As a Fly Half, her kicking and position play have proved invaluable, saving us in many tricky situations. Throughout this season, she has worked with a number of different Scrum Halfs and Centres but she has managed extremely well to adapt to al these personnel changes going on around her.

The next two awards went to players who came to the team at the start of the season and have managed to make a great impact on the game. The award for Most Improved Player 2004 – 2005 went to a Dutch woman, Second Row Marieke Vink. Completely new to rugby at the start of the season, Marieke joined the team from The Netherlands. With her drive and will to do everything perfect right away, she made life hard for herself at the start of the season. Once she found her talent for line-outs, the rest of her game started picking up quickly as she grew more and more confident. If she continues to improve at this rate, she will become a very valuable player to the team in the years to come.

The Coach’s Award 2004 – 2005 went to another second row player, Susan Dalling. Probably the smallest Second Row player in senior rugby, Susan has proved a force to reckon with. She may be small but her scrummaging is strong and stable, providing the front row with real support. Susan was new to rugby at the start of the season, but has improved enormously during the season. In many situations it was Susan who dived on the loose ball around the rucks. She got knocked down a fair few times but always got up to fight on. Rarely missed a training session. Her determination and enthusiasm gained her the Coach's Award.

The award for Club Person of the Year 2004 – 2005 went to Cpatain and Number 8, Christie Honor. There can be no doubt about who deserves this award most this season. Christie has been leading the team for 4 years and has agreed to be Captain next season as well. She has worked tirelessly to organise the matches, trainings, raffles, social events and whatever else needed to be organised. (With help of others of course). And on top of that, she has been an outstanding Number 8 this year.

The Old Leamingtonians Ladies wish to thank their sponsors, Murphy’s Bar in Leamington Spa and Lloyd’s No1 in Warwick for their support this year. Anyone wishing to play for Old Leamingtonians Ladies, please visit our website at http://www.olrfc.co.uk/ladies.
