Deep Heat Fit Camp

Being fit and ready to tackle the rugby season is as much about prevention and management of injury these days as it is about being super-strong and lightning fast, according to Dan Luger, the England and British Lions winger.

The subject has become a major concern in professional rugby circles recently and has become central to the agenda of the Deep Heat Fit Camp courses run by Luger and Paul Pook (for five years the Fitness & Conditioning Coach at NEC Harlequins) this summer for serious amateur players and coaches.

“A successful season for a club at any level is often dictated by the number of times they can field a full-strength first team,” says Luger. “Your individual and collective approach to conditioning and recovery has a very strong influence on results. The Fit Camps we run are all about communicating the professional approach to rugby fitness to players and coaches below the elite level. We are meeting a growing demand for best practise examples of how to achieve peak performance even if you are not able to commit to full-time rugby.”

The Deep Heat Fit Camps aim to convey all the modern disciplines from fitness assessment methods, enhancement of speed, power and agility, to the correct nutrition and hydration and injury prevention methods. The overall aim is to give coaches and players the ability to design their own effective fitness programmes with measurable results.

Luger and Pook combine with an expert team of coaches, physios and nutritionists for a seminars and workshops with an emphasis on drills and practical experience. The venues have been chosen for their commitment to rugby and first class sports facilities.

Deep Heat Fit Camps – started last year for readers of Rugby World magazine - are being held at Durham University on the weekend of July 23rd/24th and at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire on July 30th/31st in 2005.

Attendance on either course costs £150 incVAT per delegate and application details can be found in the latest copy of Rugby World or by calling Adrian at Rugby World on 0207 261 5264. Places on the courses are limited and only players/coaches 18 years or older should apply.
