Harlequins Draw Against Wimbledon

Harlequin Ladies continued their season in style with a friendly against local rivals Wimbledon Ladies RFC, at their new home ground - the Richardson Evans Playing Fields in Roehampton Vale on Saturday 10 September 2005, writes Rhiannon Needham.

The match was played over three twenty minute thirds, with a try coming from each team in every third. Harlequins received at the start of the match and made a good push forward into the Wimbledon half. It was Wimbledon who opened up the scoring with Harlequins scoring soon after, from a penalty move with Kat getting the ball over the tryline.

In the second third, Harlequin took the lead. The try came from a lineout where the ball had gone to ground. Cally Hocknell picked the ball up, kicked it over the Wimbledon player and then catching the ball, with the run forward over the tryline. Wimbledon managed to equalise soon after.

In the final third, Wimbledon took the lead for the second time in the game. In the last few minutes of the game Harlequins managed to score another try. Helen Cushion scored from a driving maul to drive the ball over the line, with Kat narrowly missing the conversion.

The final score was 15 - 15. Both teams lacked the strength of a full XV match but a positive performance and a determined effort was made by all.
