The Moody Cows return to Dubai this year in search of a winners medal in the Ladies section of the Emirates Dubai rugby 7s (November 30 – December 2).
Last year this newly formed team of fun loving girls were piped at the post in the final by a team of fully capped international players but now they are back and intent on playing more crowd pleasing rugby with a stronger, fitter team comprising of players from English Premiership clubs including Rosslyn Park, Richmond, Wasps and Henley.
Their name originates with the 20 stone, 6ft 3in England and Gloucester prop forward ‘Raging Bull' Phil Vickery and his business partner Alan Lamb. Following the success of the Raging Bull Rugby Sportswear range, they introduced a line of sports clothing for ladies branded 'Moody Cow' and are currently promoting the range.
Keep an eye out too for their twinned men’s side, the Raging Bull Marauder Vets, who’ll be in similar playing gear - and similar ‘play hard, party hard’ mood no doubt!
Whilst in Dubai, in between training and playing, the ladies will visit their shirt sponsors Kings’ Dubai school to take a training session with the pupils. Trish Clyde, the Moody Cow Team Captain said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for Kings’ Dubai pupils to develop their rugby skills with internationally based players and one which we also hope will prove a rewarding experience for the Moody Cows themselves. We’re of the opinion that travelling overseas with rugby is not just about winning tournaments but as much about spreading the message that rugby’s a fellowship and a great sport to be involved in.”
Several high profile ladies sides have pulled out of the 2005 tournament at the last minute - mainly due to funding issues. Fortunately, the Moody Cows have secured some financial help (thanks again to Kings’ Dubai, Enterprise MPC and Mark ‘Fatty’ Edwards). They are in urgent need of additional funding so if you like the sound of the Moody Cows - give them a moo!
