These are notes on the way the RFU Questionnaire system works.
Here are the dramatis personae:-
Amy – does not belong to any club
Billy – member of the Barchester Tigers club
Charlie – club manager of Barchester Tigers
Dickie – Wessex CB
Eddy – system manager
The way in
To gain access to the Questionnaire system, the user must go to www.rfu.com/quest
If you are not logged in, the Questionnaire link will be inactive.
This is Amy’s situation: she cannot see anything at all about the Questionnaire system.
We now assume that the 4 other characters have logged in. Clicking on the Questionnaire link will now take them to the Questionnaire Home Page.
What you see
All our 4 characters will see a menu bar along the top of the page with 5 items:-
Home Finish Logout Club Guidance Notes
(Finish and Club will be inactive at this point since no questionnaire is open.)
The rest of the page will be different for Eddy than for the others. Eddy will see a list of all CBs, and be invited to select one. Once he has done this, the page he sees will be similar to what the others see, which is:-
General instructions about completing a questionnaire, followed by a list of the questionnaires they are allowed to see (and possibly fill in). Against each questionnaire are buttons allowing you (if they are enabled) to Alter, or View, or Print that questionnaire. (Clicking on the questionnaire name has the same effect as clicking on Alter.)
What you can do
Billy, since he is not a club manager, will see the questionnaire for his club, but with only the View and Print links active, i.e. he cannot fill it in.
Charlie will also see his club’s questionnaire, and, provided it has not been “locked” (see below), the Alter link will be active too.
Dickie will see all the questionnaires for the clubs in Wessex CB, each with the Alter link active.
Eddy will see all the questionnaires for the clubs in the particular CB he has selected (see above), each with the Alter link active.
How you fill in a questionnaire
If any of our 4 characters click on the name of a questionnaire (or the Alter link), they are taken to a new browser window, without toolbar, in particular without Forward and Back buttons. This is to minimize the chance of them losing edits they have made on a page. There is still the menu at the top of the page:-
Home Finish Logout Club Guidance Notes
but now the Home and Logout are inactive. After making any changes on a page, then merely clicking on the PREV or NEXT buttons, or selecting a new page from the brown menu on the left, will save these changes.
What happens when a questionnaire is completed
Once Charlie (together with probably his club associates too) has answered all the questions, he can click on Finish in the menu at the top of the page. (Clicking on NEXT on the final page of the questionnaire has the same effect.) Provided all the pages have been fully answered, there is then an invitation to press the button which says Submit Completed Questionnaire. Once Charlie has clicked on this, the questionnaire is marked as “locked by the club manager”, and no-one below CB level can then alter it. (This models, essentially, what would happen if it were a paper-based questionnaire: once the club officials were happy with their replies, they would put it in an envelope and post it to the CB.)
