Quins skipper: Make mine a double at Twickenham!

April 5

ANDRE VOS wants to complete a week of celebrations at NEC Harlequins by lifting the Powergen National Trophy at Twickenham on Sunday.

Quins clinched the National One title four weeks from the end of the season when they beat Sedgley Park 65-8 and chasers Bedford lost at Exeter

Promotion back into the Premiership at the first attempt was followed by the announcement that the former South Africa captain would be extending his stay for a fourth season.

And a league and cup double is within his grasp against Bedford Blues in the Trophy after a run including wins against Sedgley Park, Bridgwater, Plymouth Albion and Nottingham

The contrast could not be greater between this month's celebrations and news of high profile signings - and last April's despair following relegation on the last day of the season

"We know from our last meeting with Bedford that they're a very good side and we're expecting a tough game - we'll have to be at best," said Vos.

"But we're very excited with the way everything has gone this season. As a squad we've moved on a lot and learned a lot from (new rugby director and coach) Dean Richards and Andy Friend.

"We know we've got a very exciting year ahead with Hal Luscombe and Stuart Abbott joining us and a few more to come, so we should have a very good squad together.

"It's important to get our preparation right this summer, because the Premiership is such a big challenge. We have to get it right to stay up.

"I've really enjoyed the last four years. I've met a lot of great people here and I'm looking forward to next year. We're building something special and I'm looking forward to being a continued part of that."

He added: "It's been an enjoyable season in contrast to last April, which was not enjoyable at all. You can't imagine a worse feeling and the harsh reality hits home when you go into the club and there are desks being cleared.

"But our supporters have been fantastic and stuck with us, the sponsors have been very loyal too and now we're back and hoping for a successful future.

"We've approached each match professionally, showed respect for the opposition and for the places we've been to and it's been a wonderful experience."

The year in National One has enabled rugby director Richards to develop a number of young players who will be in action against Bedford.

Fly-half Adrian Jarvis, flanker Tom Guest and full-back Tom Williams are three singled out for praise by Vos.

And best of the lot could be No.8 Nick Easter, who tops the club's try-scoring charts with 18 this season - one more than England A winger Ugo Monye.

"Nick Easter has been our go-to and go-forward guy this season, so I'm really keen to see how he'll go next year in the Premiership," said Vos.

"He's one who could have international duty not to far away. I think he deserves a go at international level with England."

Tickets are still on sale for Sunday's game either online from ticketmaster.co.uk by clicking here or by calling one of the participating clubs
