On Wednesday 26th April 2006 women’s rugby teams from Brunel and Sheffield University will contest the final of the British Universities Sports Association Trophy (BUSA) at the home of Women’s Premiership 1 leaders, Richmond WRFC, kick-off 11am.
With Richmond celebrating their 20th anniversary this season the club are delighted to be hosting this prestigious event. Originally founded in 1986, Richmond is now Europe’s most successful women’s club and the largest women’s club in England running three teams, two in the Premiership leagues and a development team, known as the Impalas who compete in the National Challenge league South East 2.
England international and Six Nations winner Jenny Sutton, who is also chair of Richmond, said: “This is a massive season for us - a celebration of two decades of rugby achievement and enjoyment. We’re delighted to be hosting the BUSA trophy final and we hope that both sides will enjoy Richmond’s first class facilities and our passion for rugby on their big occasion.”
Brunel University captain Mercedes Foy said: “We are ready for the match against Sheffield. Richmond will be an excellent ground to run out on, especially with all of our local supporters coming to cheer us on. We have all worked really hard to get to where we are and have the passion and the fight to try and take the trophy.
“We have a brilliant team ethos this year and are well drilled for anything that Sheffield throw at us. We won’t underestimate Sheffield’s skills because this is going to be a brilliant contest, especially as it’s the last 15's game that some of our team will play for Brunel. We’re going to make sure this is a match they won’t forget."
