For the second consecutive year, Darlington Building Society is sponsoring a major girls’ rugby tournament at Darlington Mowden Park RFC. On Sunday, May 14 Mowden will again host the North East Region’s Girls’ 7s Tournament and seven clubs from across the region will send teams to compete at both Under17 and Under 14 level.
Chris Webb, who manages the girls’ squad at Mowden explains:
This season there is considerable growth in the scale of the tournament and I am delighted that there will be cup and plate competitions for both age groups of girls. Last year only Under 17s were involved but this year there are five Under 14 teams as well as eight Under 17 teams. Kick off is at 11.00am with the plate finals being scheduled for 3.00pm and the cup finals at 3.30pm. Admission is free and we hope there will be considerable support for the girls, many of whom are travelling considerable distances. Clubs participating include Darlington Mowden Park, Morpeth, Tynedale, Percy Park, Cockermouth, Carlisle and Keswick.
David Copland, Marketing and Communications Manager at Darlington Building Society comments:
Once again we are delighted to sponsor this prestigious girls’ rugby tournament. We value our links with the local community and are pleased to be associated with developments that increase opportunities for wider participation in sport.
Chris Webb concludes:
We are extremely grateful for the continued support of Darlington Building Society. Girls’ rugby is still a minority sport and if it is to continue to develop, sponsorship is vital. I hope all the girls enjoy the tournament and am looking forward to an exciting day that I am sure will produce some skilful and sparkling displays of rugby. |
