Richmond Women overcame the disappointment of the losing the Premiership title to Saracens last week with an impressive 35-0 victory over league rivals Worcester in the final of the Rugby World National Cup on Sunday at Broadstreet RFC.
Skipper Nicki Drinkwater led by example with two tries either side of the break, with former England international Teresa Andrews also grabbing a brace of tries. Lisa O’Keeffe also touched down for a try, while Nicky Meston added two conversions and two penalties.
Head coach Mark Francis said: “We were totally dominant up front and that was our plan. I am really pleased because every single player was on top form. This cup final win is especially rewarding with it being the final game of the season.”
Worcester, however, bounced back from losing that final by taking the honours in the National Under 17s Cup, beating Ivel Thorns 29-0. The win, which saw Katie Singleton, Jenny Mills, Katie Pittaway, Leanne Cook and Nicole Harris all touch down, means Worcester have now won the Under 17s title four times on the bounce.
Worcester also came close to making it a title double in the inaugural National Under 14s Cup, but combined team Tamworth & Burton stole the victory by the narrowest of margins with a 19-15 win thanks to three tries and two conversions.
In the National Shield Waterloo crowned off an impressive season running out 20-8 winners against Loughborough. Waterloo won promotion into the Premiership 2 league last week.
Oakham were the other winners on the day with a narrow 10-8 triumph over Rosslyn Park II’s.
