Camp Hill Ladies prolific try-scoring fullback Jo Kilby has created a small slice of regional rugby history by attaining honours in both rugby codes – union and league.
Having represented the West Midlands at union in May which culminated in victory against Yorkshire in the Rugby Football Union for Women Senior Regional Final, Kilby then went on to take honours with the London and South East region last weekend against Yorkshire again, but this time she suffered a reverse defeat.
With Women's rugby league still a developing sport in the Midlands and South, Jo took her opportunity with the support of the Coventry Bears WRL who operate out of Old Coventrians RFC.
Commenting on the achievement the Birmingham player acknowledged: "They're two totally different games. Playing league at regional level was a fantastic experience but absolutely gruelling. Union on the other hand is my first sport. I like the continuity and unity of the game as well as getting the chance to have a breather in-between play!"
Kilby now returns to Camp Hill for summer training ahead of the impending 2006/07 season with a view to putting back on track the Ladies Premiership 2 promotion efforts.
Having failed at the last hurdle on the last two occasions, the players and the new-look coaching team are keen to lay the ghosts of the past to rest.
Ends…
