July 5th, 2006
The Rugby Football Union for Women will be holding its annual Performance Camp for 15 to 17-year-old girls over the weekend of July 21st to July 23rd at Loughborough University.
30 of the best and most talented young players from across the country, identified from May’s Royal & SunAlliance National Youth Rugby Festival, have been invited to attend.
The weekend will offer the girls high quality and intensive coaching. There will also be educational sessions on performance lifestyle, conditioning and the requirements needed to become an international athlete. For the RFUW the performance camp is an ideal opportunity for the coaches to further identify the best young players in the country as they look to the development of future international players. Since the performance camp’s inception over seven years ago several players have progressed along the performance pathway and into the full England squad, including the likes of this year’s England Rugby World Cup squad members Maggie Alphonsi, Michaela Staniford, Amy Turner and Rachel Burford.
