Old Dunstonian Ladies 5 v Beccehamians Ladies 15

Sunday 8th October 2006, ko 3pm

Sadly the Old Dunstonian Ladies’ winning run came to an end when local Division 3 side, Beccehamians defeated the home side three tries to one. The ODs put up a great performance against the more experienced side and looked the stronger team for most of the first and second quarters. Some great forwards work, especially from first timer, Trish Laker at second row and Helen Dempsey as prop, kept the home side down in the oppositions half. The backs, missing several regular players, attacked well to put Beccehamians under pressure several times with fly half Sarah Bodenham making some excellent breaks. Beccs came back at the ODs well with their full back making some good runs, but she was denied a score by the excellent defence from the whole ODs team.

It was the ODs who took first blood with a great individual run from flanker Jenny Dempsey, who ran through several tackles to score. Unfortunately, Beccs came back in the third quarter with a great pick up from the very experienced number 8 to level the scores. In the final two quarters the OD forwards put in an excellent performance in their first ever uncontested scrums showing the great potential there is in the pack. Louise Freds put in some great tactical kicking to gain the home side valuable possession but they were unable to break through the Beccs defence to score again. In the end, the skill and experience of the Beccs number 8 took it’s toll and she run over for two more individual tries. The Ods team spirit shone through during the whole match as they refused to give up until the final whistle. The score was disappointing but the match against an experienced league side has given the Old Dunstonian Ladies team an idea of what to work on to prepare them for the league next season.
