The new season has started with a three-fold increase in the number of Letchworth RFC girls in the Hertfordshire Under 17s county squad.
Six girls from the club including Naomi Parnell and Hayley Guilder were both re-selected and they are joined by Laura Watson, Natalie Threlfall, Rosie Randfield and Katie Alcock. In addition a seventh club member, Sasha Acheson, will play county rugby for Eastern Counties.
The county selections took place following trials at Stevenage last month. Nearly sixty girls from across the county took part, including most of the previous year's squad.
John Birch of Letchworth RFC said: “Breaking into the county team is quite an achievement, especially for young players such as Laura and Natalie who have only just moved up from Under 14s rugby this season.”
A second county trial and training day takes place this Sunday at St. Christopher School in Letchworth. At this session selectors will be concentrating on the younger players for the County Under 14s team, but will also be looking to form a County Under 17s second XV.
