Players selected for England Super 4 trials

October 12th, 2006

90 players from this summer’s RFUW Performance Development Academy programme trialled on September 30th at Broadstreet RFC for a place in the England’s Super 4 games, which is how the England Elite squad of 44 will be selected.

Of these, 50 players were selected to play in the Super 4 games on October 22nd including six players who are still eligible to play for the England Under 19s squad. In all 27 clubs will be represented at the Super 4 games.

At Under 19s level, 120 players from regional standard or above trialled at Birmingham University on October 7th. 44 players have been selected to play alongside the Super 4 games at Lichfield RFC on October 22nd. 30 different clubs are represented. From this and the Super 4 games, the England Under 19s squad will be selected.

England Women’s assistant coach Gary Street said: “The quality of players at both levels has made a huge leap forward this year and that is largely due to the great work being done at club, regional and junior levels.  It is a very exciting time in our development for both our club and national programmes. The standard of our game continues to grow and we are looking forward not only to this season, but for the next few years ahead.”

Ends..
