Yorkshire Ladies will go into the regional trials at Cleckheaton on December 3 in positive mood after beating Northumberland Ladies 46-0 at Morpeth recently.
The win leaves the White Rose team with an aggregate of 94 points scored and none conceded in their two games against Cheshire and Northumberland and they are now in fine fettle for the Northern Championship decider against Lancashire on December 13 at a venue still to be agreed.
"Lancashire have won the title for the last two seasons and Yorkshire have never won it while I’ve been involved, so we’re keen to do well," says coach Gordon Piper. "The two wins we’ve had underline how far the girls have come in a short time.
"When I started two years ago, we had 13 girls to our first training session, but this year we had 44. We also have girls from Sheffield and Thirsk now involved, so the squad has grown in numbers and strength."
Winger Charlene Hennigan from Leodiensians was the star of the Morpeth success, running in four tries, with full-back Natalie Daniels (Sheffield Ladies) also getting a brace. Winger Alice Cook (York St John’s) and replacement winger Joy Curati (Leeds Met University) also crossed, with centre Lindsay Munro (Leodiensians) converting three of the tries. |
