March 20th, 2008
Following on from the successful events in 2002 and 2004 where over 100 women rugby players came together at Altrincham Kersal Rugby Club for a charity rugby match, 12-Hour rugby will be happening again on August Bank Holiday Sunday on August 24th.
The event is being held to raise money for the Pituitary Foundation and the Breast Cancer Campaign.
In previous years there has been champagne rugby and tries a-plenty and along the way nearly £10,000 was raised each time for the chosen charities.
12-hour rugby founder Vicky Muir developed the idea whilst looking for a way of fundraising following surgery and treatment for a pituitary tumour. She said: “I wanted to find a fun way to give something back to the people who have given me and thousands of others a huge amount of support dealing with Pituitary disorders.
“With so many people we know affected by breast cancer and particularly with us loosing Sue Garnett to the disease this season, we also want to show support for the Breast Cancer Campaign.
“The 12 Hour rugby event does however need the help of players and sponsors. For players, it doesn’t matter what level of rugby you play, come and join in and help us raise money for two great charities. For sponsors there are many options available; from balls, to referees, to players, to kit.”
The event will take place from 8:00am to 8:00pm at Altrincham Kersal Rugby Club.
