Tarleton U17s flying flag for North at Worcester

April 22, 2008

Tarleton Under 17s will be flying the flag for the North at Worcester on May 4, 2008 in the final of the National Under 17 Cup.

The Lancashire lads were the only team to emerge successful from the four regional semi finals of the competition against Midlands opposition at Macclesfield on Sunday.

Both Keswick and Wetherby were comfortably beaten in the Shield and Bowl semi-finals by Derby and Melton Mowbray respectively and while Wirral were still in contention at no side against another Leicester club, Syston, they too were edged out 31-24.

Tarleton, however, ensured a Northern presence at Sixways when they beat Old Coventrians 26-12 and they will now face Harpenden in the final.

The Hertfordshire team, who have Owen Farrell, son Andy, in their ranks in normal fixtures, beat Bournemouth 33-20 in their regional semi-final at Henley last weekend.

Semi-final results, North/Midlands: Shield - Derby 32 Keswick 10; Bowl - Melton Mowbray 34 Wetherby 3; Plate - Syston 31 Wirral 24; Cup - Old Coventrians 12 Tarleton 26.

The schedule for finals day at Worcester on the 4th May 2008 is:

Shield Final: Bracknell RFC v Derby RFC (11am)

Bowl Final: Dorking RFC or Marlow RFC v Melton Mowbray RFC (12.45pm)

Plate Final: Bristol RFC v Syston RFC (2.30pm)

Cup Final: Harpenden RFC v Tarleton RFC (4.15pm)
