The RFUW in the North East hosted its first women and girls’ Player and Coach Development session at Houghton Kepier School on June 29th.
Players and coaches were invited to a development day tutored by Northumberland RFU Rugby Development Officer Alan Moses. The day concentrated on attacking play and defensive skills.
Rob Thomson, the RFUW’s North East Club and Coach Officer said: “It was a very valuable session for the players, especially those moving up to the Under 18s age group next season. It was the first time some of them had been questioned about their rugby knowledge, and many showed they knew more than they were letting on! This bodes well for the clubs next season.
“For the coaches, it was a chance to network and exchange ideas and pick up some new ideas for training, and to exchange ideas for the county and regional sessions next season.”
It is hoped that this will be the first of many sessions that will help the clubs, players and coaches develop throughout the North East.
