The England based Nomads have been invited by the South African Rugby Football Union to play two warm-up games against the South African national women’s XV.
The game, on August 9th at Ellis Park, is a curtain-raiser to the Springbok’s test match against Argentina’s Pumas which is part of the celebrations for Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday.
Then on August 16th, when the Springboks take on New Zealand in the Tri Nations at Newlands Cape Town they will play another warm-up game against South Africa. This news comes on the back of the Nomads signing a sponsorship deal with Northampton based business Continuity, along with Zoti as official kit sponsors.
Fiona Stockley, Nomads team manager, said “We are delighted to have been invited by the SARU to play before these two tests, and especially as the first event also celebrates Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday. We are extremely grateful to RFUW and Scottish Rugby Football Union for their continued support in releasing players to our touring squad”.
The Nomads will also have a midweek fixture against Western Province Women’s XV. The following day they are going to Inyanga Township supporting SARU in the development of the women’s game in South Africa to run a coaching clinic for 50 girls. The Nomads are an invitation women's XV, who fulfil high profile fixtures regularly against England A and the Home Nations as well as other international touring sides.
