Volunteer Agreements

It is good practice to put any agreement with a volunteer in writing and can be useful for staff and volunteers.  In particular when a volunteer first joins up agreeing their role and commitment and stating clearly what is expected of them will help the volunteer work productively.

Any volunteer agreement should be relevant to the individual. It may be a formal agreement, signed by the volunteer and (the Club Volunteer Coordinator) or, if this would be perceived as over formal, a letter from the Club Volunteer co-ordinator summarising their involvement and commitment.

All volunteer agreements should state that both the club and the volunteer agree to abide by the Club’s Volunteers Charter that can be created by your club but should include this statement:-

‘This agreement is not intended to be a legally binding contract between us.  Neither of us intends any employment relationship to be created either now or in any time in the future.  The agreement may be cancelled at any time in the future.  The agreement may be cancelled at any time at the discretion of either party’

This agreement should go hand in hand with the Terms of Reference in order to gain the optimum benefit for both the Volunteer and the Club itself.
