RFUW Regional Rugby Staff Training Day

REGIONAL STAFF TURN OUT IN FORCE TO ATTEND LILLESHALL TRAINING DAY

106 volunteer staff showed their commitment and enthusiasm for the RFUW Regional Programme, which kicks off with trials this weekend, when they attended the first national training day on the first Sunday of the New Year.

The training, organised by the Development Staff, was part of the RFUW’s continued investment in the Regional Programme for 2003-04. Staff Handbooks and Regional sweatshirts were provided along with an allocation of equipment.

The training commenced when staff were welcomed to Lilleshall National Sports Centre by Carol Isherwood, Director of Rugby.

Nicola Ponsford, World Class Manager explained the aims and objectives of this year’s Regional Programme, which now has a much clearer emphasis on individual player development.   A practical session for coaches was led by Danny Wilson, Team England Assistant Coach and Managers and Welfare staff were briefed on their responsibilities and given the opportunity to exchange information.

Staff who had not previously received Child Protection Awareness training were provided with the opportunity to do so.

Carol Isherwood commented “I thought it was an excellent turn out in the weekend after Christmas and just shows the commitment and passion of these volunteers towards enhancing the rugby services for women and girls.  The staff training day was just the start of the implementation of an enhanced structure and ethos for regional rugby which will increase and improve our ability to identify and develop talented players at U16 / U18 and senior levels.”
