Irish To Face England At Twickenham

The England Women's Rugby Team are set to play their home fixture against Ireland at Twickenham the RFUW announced today. The game on 6th March, which England are favourites to win, will kick off just hours before the men's game against the Irish at 4pm and will be only the second time ever that the women have played at Twickenham.

England kicked off their 2003 6 Nations campaign with their first ever game at Twickenham against France. They won the game 57-0 and went on to win the Grand Slam.

RFUW Managing Director Rosie Williams commented: "Playing at Twickenham was a fantastic start to our Grand Slam winning campaign last year and we are very pleased to be back there to take on the Irish in March. Playing at the home of England Rugby is daunting for any away team, and we hope to capitalise on the excitement of the occasion to produce a great spectacle of women's rugby."

RFU Chief Executive Francis Baron said, "The RFU has developed a very strong and mutually productive working relationship with the RFUW. The England Women's team is hugely successful and like the men's side will be defending a Grand Slam in 2004. The England Women's teams second international fixture at Twickenham, against Ireland, on March 6th will, I hope, form part of another successful Six Nations campaign for the team.

England Coach, Geoff Richards will announce his team in the next few days, and they will kick off the 2004 6 Nations Championship by taking on Spain in Zaragoza on 15th February as the men start their campaign against the Italians in Rome on the same day.
