Westcliffe Rugby Club in Southend are hosting an introduction to Tag Rugby for girls between the ages of 12-18 next Sunday (14th March) between 11.30 and 2pm.
Tag Rugby is a form of non-contact (no tackling or barging) rugby. In Tag Rugby, players wear a light belt with two ribbons attached by Velcro. A "tackle" is simply the removal of one of the two tags by a defender and then the ball carrier must pass. Both players are then out of play until the tag has been returned and placed back on the belt.
In its simplest form Tag Rugby can be played without scrums or lineouts with teams as small as 4 a side. Players need no previous knowledge of rugby to get started, which makes the game ideal for players of any gender, age, physique or ability.
Tag Rugby develops running skills, evasion skills, defensive skills and handling skills. It can be played on any surface, inside or out and it's very flexible allowing rules, such as knock-on's & offside, and set pieces, such as scrums, lineouts & mauls, to be added as players get more competent. Attacking & defending strategies are very different to other invasion games.
