On Wednesday 3rd March, Dorset witnessed it’s first ever schools girls rugby festival at Parkstone Grammar School in Poole. The festival organized by Dan Brown, Rugby Development Officer for Dorset, and Janet Edwards, Teacher and Rugby Coach at Parkstone Grammar School, attracted 15 teams from schools around the county.
Two 7-a-side competitions were held with ten teams in the under-14 tag tournament and five teams in the under-16 contact competition. After an extremely competitive and enjoyable day’s rugby, Swanage Middle School took the under-14’s title, with Purbeck School claiming victory in the under-16’s tournament.
Girl's rugby is continuing to grow in Dorset aided by several partnerships between local clubs and schools, such as those between Parkstone Grammar and Wimborne RFC, and Purbeck with Swanage and Wareham RFC. if you would like more information about your nearest club or how to get involved in girl's rugby please contact Dan Brown, RDO for Dorset, on 07764 960393. |
