Fullerians edge out Petersfield in thrilling Semi Final
Sunday saw Fullerians Furies take on Petersfield in the Semi Final of the Under 16 National Cup. It turned out to be a thrilling encounter with both sides desperate to face Worcester in the final.
The Furies started well and after a sustained period of pressure took the lead through a Hannah Casey try after six minutes. Four minutes later Natalie Adams outpaced the Petersfield defence to score under the posts. Sarah McKenna converted and The Furies led 12-0 at half time having weathered a fierce onslaught from a Petersfield side desperate to get back into the match.
The second half saw Petersfield fight their way back with two converted tries to see them leading 14-12 with just eight minutes to go. Throughout the half the Furies had hardly got out of their own 22 and only some ferocious tackling and committed defence had prevented Petersfield from scoring more.
Then in a rare foray into the Petersfield half, with just two minutes on the clock, the Furies were awarded a penalty near the posts. Sarah McKenna kicked the points and they clung on to snatch the victory and a well deserved place in next weeks Final at Broad Street RFC, Coventry.
