Harlequin Ladies Press Release

Date: Sunday 16th January 2005

(Harlequin Ladies 5 – Wimbledon 10)

The Harlequin Ladies conceded a further league defeat in Sunday’s game against Wimbledon, writes Jo Everett.

Quins received the kick-off in what was to be a scrappy first half, after the long Christmas break. Although Quins quickly worked their way into Wimbledon’s half, several handling errors and their failure to secure the ball at the breakdowns, kept them away from the tryline. Wimbledon then kicked their way to a better field position, and quickly pulled in the Quins defence, before scoring out wide.

Quins put in a strong chase at the restart, and began to put Wimbledon under some pressure. However with slow ball coming out of the rucks, Quins were unable to gain points from their good field position. Wimbledon were again able to fight their way back down the pitch, this time running through the middle to secure their second try.

Quins finally began to raise their game, despite a run of injuries in the second half. Wimbledon were kept in their half for much of the remaining forty minutes, but defended well against the strong attack by the Quins forwards.

Harlequins continued their attack, and were finally rewarded when outside-centre, Tanya Lee, carried the ball over close to the final whistle.

Harlequins will need to tighten up their game plan ready for next week’s fixture, away to Blackheath, as every League point becomes crucial.

Quins Ladies Carry the Flag

Several of the Harlequin Ladies were proud to participate in the ERC Flag bearing ceremony before the Harlequins – Munster game, at Twickenham on Saturday.

With other members of the Ladies’ team supporting the Community Rugby programme, which also ran before the game, it was a great opportunity for the Ladies to raise their profile and show their support of the club.
